Fatima Casadei was born in Stockholm and spent many years in Vancouver, B.C. A former Vaudeville/Burlesque Performer (10 years) with extensive knowledge and work history as a Colorist/Hair Stylist and Beauty Technician. She took a step off la giostra and found herself in Honolulu, Hawaii. From brush to canvas, such a boisterous life inspired an ample repertoire of Lowbrow Art Nouveau girls. But
this collection, Grindshow, which she now identifies herself as, is without a doubt the pinnacle of her creative expression.
“As long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated with the history of sideshows, carnies, and “freak shows”. It wasn’t until a year after the birth of my son, Dylan Knox, that the direction of my work could fully find its place. Dylan was born with a plethora of birth abnormalities. Albeit was bleak times, the fight for a life gained me a different outlook on life as I know it and I wanted “Grindshow” to reflect that. I found comfort in the thought that if we’d have been around in the early 1900’s we would probably be a part of a traveling carnival or freak show exhibit - The fused baby and his tattooed mother. A real, step-right-up, you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it-folks! But here we are and the world is still filled with curiosities and other unexplainable wonders. I feel that there could be no right or wrong in mother nature. How could it? When such an incredible child exists like countless before him. My art, inspiration, and drive is dedicated to my beautiful champion, Dylan Knox, and to all the amazing people who in their lifetime became wonders to us. To The Lobster Boy, The Ape Girl, The Tattooed Lady, and all others who lived through adversity and faced cruelty - I wish to shine the brightest star on you. I admire and respect you and will forever be inspired by you.”
So keep your eyes wide open ladies and gents, you don’t want to miss any of this. Welcome to The Grindshow!
