Sentro Rizal Honolulu The Sentro Rizal Honolulu is an institution whose main objective is the global promotion of Filipino art, culture and language.

It is located at the chancery of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu. Sentro Rizal Honolulu is a cultural institution that will promote Philippine history, culture, languages and arts to local audiences in Hawaii. The Center is located at the newly-renovated chancery of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu located on Pali Highway. Sentro Rizal is named after Dr. Jose Rizal, the Ph

ilippines’ national hero. His life and works sparked the country’s quest for nationhood. Just as Rizal helped imbue a sense of love for the country, Sentro Rizal Honolulu hopes to spark the interest and desire of Filipinos in Hawaii, especially the youth, and engender pride in their Filipino heritage. Through the organization of events, lectures, language classes, and cultural performances, the Center hopes to increase appreciation for the Philippines and its culture.

18 November 2025, Honolulu – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu conducted a screening of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) Heneral Tuna animation series at Sentro Rizal - Honolulu last 15 November.

Heneral Tuna is a Filipino animation produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The series features the adventures of an alien cat named Heneral Tuna who learns about Filipino culture and traditions after his spaceship crashes in the Philippines. The activity sought to introduce the children and their parents / guardians to Philippine animation, spark their curiosity, and nurture their creativity.

In her remarks, Deputy Consul General Durian-Bailon shared the importance of sharing Philippine culture, heritage, and values to the younger generation and encouraging them to express themselves through the arts.

Following the screening of three episodes of the Heneral Tuna series, Ms. Zoe Tong of the Dream Lab conducted an art workshop for kids. The children were guided to design their own interpretation of the character Heneral Tuna. Ipinagdiriwang din ngayong Agosto ang Buwan ng Kasaysayan, kung saan pinaiigting ng temang "Diwa ng Kasaysayan, Kabilin sa Kabataan" ang papel ng kabataan sa pagbuo, pagsulat, paggawa, at pagtataguyod ng kasaysayan at kalinangan ng bayan.

Kalakip ng temang ito ang pagkilala sa kabataaang humubog sa ating kasaysayan -- mula sa mga batang bayaning ipinamalas ang giting sa kabila ng mura nilang edad, hanggang sa mga batang manggagawang kultural na patuloy na tumutuklas at bumabalangkas sa ating mga pamana.

The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu is pleased to co-present with House of Gongs, "Markings of Legacy: Script, Skin, and Spirit" this August 4th, 5:00 p.m. at 2433 Pali Highway.

The cultural showcase brings together Filipino ancestral practices of batok (hand-tap tattooing) and baybayin (pre colonial script) in conversation with living cultural bearers and tradition keepers from the Philippines and the Filipino-American diaspora.

The event features a live batok demonstration, a cultural exchange through baybayin, and a special performance by the Braddah Ash, House of Gongs and University of Hawai‘i Kulintang Ensemble.

A panel discussion moderated by Lydia Querian will offer a dialogue around the cultural, spiritual, and diasporic significance of these practices—featuring Lane Wilcken, mambabatok and scholar of sacred symbolism; Kristian Kabuay, leading advocate and artist of baybayin and batok artist; and House of Gongs Artist in Residence Pow Taton, an esteemed educator, researcher from the Panay Bukidnon community in the Visayas.

In line with the annual celebration of National Arts Month every February, the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu is proud to present Ani ng Sining: Diwa at Damdamin. The theme emphasizes the idea that the nation’s artistic expression is deeply rooted in the collective passion and spirit of its people.

Join us and experience the rich tapestry of Philippine culture and arts through the the online exhibit "Strong and Luscious," spearheaded by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in partnership with the Museo ng Kaalamang Katutubo (MusKKat). The exhibit features the utility and versatility of the abaca, a strong fiber obtained from Musa textilis, a non-edible banana native to the Philippines.

May this celebration not only serve as an opportunity to honor the creative talents of the Filipino people, but also recognize how art unites us and reconnects us to our roots. Together, let us honor our heritage, and ensure that our legacy continues to inspire generations to come.

Kilalanin si Francisco M. Guinto, Poeta Laureado ng Pampanga, sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga tula na pinamagatang “Alang Kwenta Ing Katasan” at “Bakit Isumpa Ra Ing Inalal Da Ka?”

Bilang background ng mga tula, itinatampok rin ang iba’t ibang nakabibighaning lugar sa Pilipinas. Nakikilala mo ba ang mga makasaysayang gusali na ito? Ang nasa unang larawan ay ang Parokya ng Santiago Apostol o mas kilala bilang Betis Church na unang itinayo noong 1660 at muling binuo noong 1770 dahil sa sunog. Si Marne Kilates (1952-2024) ay tanyag na manunulat at tagasalin sa wikang Bikolano. Siya rin ay nagtamo ng parangal sa Gawad Palanca. Kilalanin siya sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga tula na pinamagatang “Kun Minsan an Paggiromdom Daing Pandok” at “Pampang Kan Sakong Pagkamoot”.

Isang mapagpalayang umaga sa lahat!

Nakikiisa ang Kagawaran ng Ugnayang Panlabas (Department of Foreign Affairs, DFA) at Pambansang Komisyon ng Pilipinas para sa UNESCO (UNACOM) sa Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino sa paggunita ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa na may temang “Filipino, Wikang Mapagpalaya.” Sa buwang ito, nais ng DFA at UNACOM na itampok ang ilang tanyag na mga makatang sumusulat sa wikang Tagalog, Bicol, Kapampangan, at Cebuano, upang ipakilala ang angking galing ng Pilipinong manunulat at ang kariktan ng iba’t ibang wika ng Pilipinas.

Kilalanin si Virgilio S. Almario, Pambansang Alagad ng Sining para sa Panitikan, sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga tulang pinamagatang “Mga Laruan” at “Ang Laya ay Hindi Layaw.” Maaaring mas kilala niyo rin siya sa kaniyang alyas na Rio Alma.
