Rain rain rain......... hard for the scallops lookers to find those scallops with the water being all mixed up from all the rain... People are still getting their limits and they look like a great size for just the beginning of the season......Don't forget to check out MacRae's Of Homosassa for more updates and information about up coming events.... also Riverside of Homosassa has great food and dining experience....Thursday's are grill nite and they also have the river tours and evening tours so there is so much to do right now. Come enjoy all the fun...

I am told that the scallops are out there and in abundance, so get out there and get those scallops, bring them back in and there is plenty of people cleaning.... have a drink, enjoy the band at one of our local businesses... and have fun!^_^

Hey, scallop season is under way and in full swing. I've taken some pic.s and Will be posting them soon..... Everything down at the river (Homosassa) is packed with people's for the summer kick off. Slash down. Fire works tonight at dusk. People all over cleaning incoming boats that have scallops.... loving life down by the water.... look for pictures and come join the fun.

I have been informed that people do not know what a mother shucker is or what we do. Here is a complete description of a Homosassa Mother Shucker and why we are called this.
First of all You really need to know what scallops are and how they are obtained. A scallop is a marine bivalve mollusk of the family Pectinidae. Scallops are a cosmopolitan family, found in all of the world's oceans. They are found in the gulf of Mexico and many other area's of salt water. They come in a shell and propel themselves through the water by opening and closing their shell. They are filler feeders. Meaning when water and other things flow through them they eat the nutrients and small marine life that goes in their bodies. Now The other girl that I have working with me and myself are Mothers' That is where the Mothers part comes from and Shuckers is a termination of how you clean a scallop. You clean a scallop by removing their shell, known as shucking.So..... In taking that all in. Oh and we live in Homosassa. so we are "Homosassa Mother Shuckers". I really hope that clears everything up for everyone and you have a better understanding of Homosassa Mother Shuckers.
