Thank you to the granting organizations who make Pier One Youth Theatre possible. We couldn’t do it without your support!
Our programs are made possible in part by a grant from the Camps Initiative at the Alaska Community Foundation in partnership with the Rasmuson Foundation and by the The Homer Foundation Opportunity Fund.
Additional support comes from the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and from contributions by community members like you.
These funds allowed us to host over 70 students ages 5 to 17 over the summer in 2023. We offered Cosmic Hamlets: Shakescenes, Theatre Play, Stories on the Stage, Seldovia Drama Camp in partnership with the Seldovia Arts Council, and a Production Camp performance of Anne of Green Gables. Through hands-on, open-ended practice, students gain social skills and learn about responsibility, self-reliance, cooperation, and empathy. Theatre activities engage their bodies and minds as they stretch toward creative goals. Content created for youth audiences introduces new generations to collective storytelling and fosters a love of theatre.
Thank you for supporting Pier One Youth Theatre!
And thank you Iso for making this video for us. ❤️

Cosmic Hamlets: Shakescene
In this camp, students delve into the works of Shakespeare - Historical context, origins of ideas, language and poetry, and recurring themes are all explored.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Robinson Shakespeare Company at the University of Notre Dame, students participate in "Shakescene" in which they rehearse, costume, & film a scene from a Shakespeare play. This film is pieced together with scenes contributed by other youth camps and released on the Notre Dame YouTube channel.

This year’s Shakescene will be from Romeo and Juliet!
