LEGACY: This is the story of how Vivid Ink came to be a successful family business through the mentorship and generosity of Stu’s Uncle Dean. At the time of this recording, Stu had not seen Uncle Dean for a few years. Shortly after the podcast was filmed, Uncle Dean randomly stopped into the shop one morning to check on Stu and catch up on life. It was a pure Uncle Dean-type move to spontaneously stop in and visit. It ended up being a moment more important to Stu than he would know. A few weeks later, Uncle Dean passed away unexpectedly and far too young. Recently, at his memorial service, we all heard stories of Dean’s larger than life personality and love for people. This is Stu’s story; a story of how Vivid Ink may never have become a reality if not for Uncle Dean believing in him and giving him the tools to make it happen. Over the years, Vivid has supported the livelihood of many employees, launched the careers of dozens of artists, and been a place that is more than “just a tattoo shop” for so many.
