The greatest lessons children learn are not taught—they are caught. 🌱

Over the past few days, I’ve been reflecting on emotional intelligence and how much of it begins in early childhood.

As adults, we often teach children their ABCs, numbers, colors, and shapes. But perhaps one of the most important lessons we can teach is how to understand their emotions.

Children are always watching us. They learn far more from how we respond than from what we say. They notice how we handle disappointment, frustration, joy, fear, gratitude, kindness, and even conflict.

Emotions themselves are never “good” or “bad.” They are simply part of being human. What truly matters is how we express them and the choices we make while experiencing them.

This is why our role as parents, caregivers, and educators carries such a beautiful responsibility. We don’t need to be perfect—we need to be intentional. When we acknowledge our emotions, speak about them respectfully, apologize when we’re wrong, show empathy, and respond with kindness, we’re giving children lessons that no textbook can teach.

Just as importantly, we shape the values that become their inner compass.

Kindness.
Empathy.
Gratitude.
Honesty.
Respect.
Resilience.
Compassion.
Service.

These values help guide children when emotions become big. They remind them to pause, think, and choose actions that reflect who they want to be.

In today’s world, success is often measured by money, titles, or achievements. While those things have their place, I believe our greatest goal is to raise children who are capable of living meaningful lives.

A capable human being is someone who can manage emotions, build healthy relationships, solve problems, care for others, contribute to their community, and live with purpose and integrity.

At Blooming Blossoms, we hope to nurture not only curious minds but also kind hearts, strong character, and emotionally aware little humans.

Because when children grow up understanding both their emotions and their values, they don’t just succeed—they flourish. ❤️🌸

🦁 Learning Through a Simple Story

Today we read If I Were a Lion by Sarah Weeks, and I was amazed by how such a simple book captured the children’s attention for such a long time. They stayed involved, observed the illustrations carefully, answered questions, and shared so many thoughtful ideas.

The story gently explores the difference between wild animal behavior and appropriate human behavior. We discussed how wild animals act according to their instincts—they may roar, scratch, bite, grab, or chase without thinking about whether their actions are right or wrong. People, however, can pause, think, communicate, and make safer and kinder choices.

As we read, I asked the children:

🦁 What does a lion do?
🐯 What other animals are wild?
🤔 Do we sometimes behave in similar ways?
💛 Is it okay to call another person “wild”?
🌿 What could we do instead when we feel angry, excited, or frustrated?

We also pointed to the illustrations, identified different animals, copied their sounds and movements, and talked about how each animal behaves.

One important message from our conversation was that having big feelings does not make a child “wild” or “bad.” Feelings are natural, but we can learn how to express them without hurting others. We can use words, ask for help, wait for a turn, take a breath, or move to a quiet space.

Books like this remind us that meaningful learning does not always require complicated activities. Sometimes, one engaging story and a few thoughtful questions can lead to wonderful conversations about animals, emotions, self-control, kindness, and making good choices. 📚🦁💛

🍦 Life is like ice cream—enjoy it before it melts! 🍦

This week at Blooming Blossoms was filled with sweet learning, creativity, movement, and plenty of summer fun as we explored our Ice Cream Theme!

The children made their own healthy fruit popsicles and truly enjoyed every step of the process—from preparing the fruit to patiently waiting for the popsicles to freeze. Of course, the best part was finally tasting and relishing their delicious homemade treats! 🍓🍌🫐

Our ice cream cones also became a fun way to learn math! The younger children practiced counting scoops, while the older children explored the concepts of addition and subtraction by adding and taking away ice cream scoops. Who knew math could be this sweet? 🍨➕➖

We also enjoyed our weekly yoga session, where the children stretched, moved, relaxed, and had lots of fun together. With beautiful summer weather, we made the most of our outdoor time by playing, exploring, and enjoying one another’s company.

Just like ice cream, childhood moments can melt away quickly—so we are making sure to enjoy every little scoop of laughter, learning, friendship, and fun! 💕🍦

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”… or turn them into a whole classroom theme! 🍋

Lemons may taste tangy and sour on their own, but with a little creativity, they can become so many wonderful things. Life can feel the same way—challenging moments can often turn into meaningful experiences when we approach them with patience, positivity, and imagination.

This week, our children explored lemons and limes through observation, conversation, play, math, art, and cooking. We compared their color, size, smell, taste, texture, and uses. We made fresh lemonade and lemon cake, created lemon-print stamps, practiced counting, and introduced simple addition and subtraction to our older children.

Our outdoor lemonade stand was another highlight and quickly turned into joyful water play—which made it even more fun on a warm summer day! We also enjoyed coloring activities while learning new words and sharing our thoughts about lemons and limes.

A simple fruit gave us so many opportunities to learn, create, explore, and make happy memories together. 🍋💚

This quote reflects so much of what I believe about childhood.

Children are like young saplings. They cannot grow and flourish when they constantly feel unsafe, pressured, judged, or exposed to harshness. They grow best when they are surrounded by patience, consistency, encouragement, and people who make them feel secure.

When a child begins to feel safe, we can see it in the smallest moments—their relaxed smile, a shy blush, the excitement in their voice, the confidence to explore, or the courage to try something new. Their behavior often communicates what they may not yet have the words to express.

Of course, childhood is not always easy or perfect. There will be tears, difficult transitions, challenging behaviors, and days when progress feels slow. As caregivers, we should be open and honest with parents about these struggles so that we can work together. But we must also remember not to let those difficult moments take away our calmness, patience, or kindness toward the child.

Children do not need perfect adults. They need steady adults who can guide them through hard moments while continuing to make them feel loved, accepted, and safe. Because when children feel safe, they are free to learn, explore, laugh, make mistakes, and truly blossom.🌸 🌸🌸

Every child has their own journey. 🌱

This quote speaks to me because, as an early childhood educator, I don’t believe children should be compared to one another.

Every child who walks through our doors begins their journey from a different place. Some learn to speak earlier, some become confident climbers, some love books, while others learn best through movement and hands-on experiences. They may walk the same path together, but they have different stops, different timelines, and different destinations.

The moment children begin to sense comparison, something changes. They start looking into our eyes, searching for approval. They wonder, “Are you happy with me?” Instead of exploring, learning, and enjoying the process, they begin trying to please the adults around them.

That isn’t the childhood I want for them.

At Blooming Blossoms, we celebrate progress, not comparison. We cheer for every small step because every milestone belongs to that child. Our role isn’t to ask, “Why aren’t you like someone else?” Our role is to help each child become the very best version of themselves.

The sun and the moon never compete, yet both brighten our world in their own time.

I hope every child who leaves our daycare carries one feeling with them:

“I was accepted, I was encouraged, and I was enough.” ❤️

There is something magical about watching fireworks through a child’s eyes. ✨🎆

For children, fireworks often mean celebration, excitement, colors filling the sky, laughter, and making special memories with family and friends. Their faces light up with every sparkle, reminding us how much joy can be found in simple moments.

While many children love the experience, the loud sounds can be overwhelming for some, especially younger children or those with sensory sensitivities. A pair of noise-cancelling headphones or ear protection can make the evening much more comfortable, allowing them to enjoy the beautiful colors without feeling distressed.

Whether your little one watches with excitement or prefers to admire them from a quieter distance, the goal is the same—to create happy memories in a way that feels safe and comfortable for them.

Wishing everyone a joyful, colorful, and safe fireworks celebration! ❤️🎇

A Gentle Start Back After the Long Weekend 🌼

After the July 4th weekend, we intentionally slowed things down to give the children time to reconnect with their friends, settle back into their routines, and ease into the daycare environment.

Even with a relaxed pace, our week was full of meaningful learning and fun! We practiced counting and number matching, baked our own vegan banana bread, enjoyed music and movement with colorful scarves, and explored magnets. After learning how magnets attract certain metals, the children became little scientists, using magnetic wands as “metal detectors” to search for hidden metal pieces buried in packing peanuts. It was a huge hit and kept them engaged for a long time!

Outdoor play brought another wonderful reminder of the power of imagination. Simple tree branches became brooms, bug swatters, and magical wands. Children truly don’t need expensive toys—they just need time, space, and the freedom to create.

We’re looking forward to a fun-filled week ahead with more activities, crafts, outdoor adventures, laughter, and learning through play.

💚 Sometimes, slowing down is exactly what children need to grow.
