During the first act, the mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer and Clara’s mischievous little brother Fritz set the tone for all the magic, drama, and tension that begins Clara’s “Dream.” From Drosselmeyer’s presentation of toys where, with the help of Fritz, he foreshadows the epic Mouse Queen and Nutcracker battle - to Clara and Fritz fighting over the Nutcracker doll, the scene is set! If you look closely you will notice that our Drosselmeyer presents each set of party parents with a gift resenting every land in the Kingdom of Sweets! Our mischievous black sheep always steals the show! Did you know that the “Dance of the Reed Flutes” has many different interpretations depending on the ballet company or choreographer? Our scene portrays a lovely shepherdess trying to keep her sheep and lambs in line while a naughty black sheep tries to get in the way. This dance in other productions is often called “Marzipan” and sometimes includes a prop such as a mini flute or ribbon wands. Photo Credit:
