Congratulations to two Iron Horse board members, Mona Peterson and Nancy Wiese, for being featured in the Nebraska Art Teachers exhibit at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney! Three of our formerly gallery artists are also included: Greg Yochum, Christy Kosmicki and Brandy Edgren!

The Nebraska Art Teachers Association 2026 Exhibition brings together 45 art educators and art education students from across Nebraska, showcasing an eclectic mix of media, styles, and creative perspectives.

Juried by Nebraska artist Jeremy Hansen, this annual exhibition celebrates the artistic practices of those who teach, mentor, and champion the visual arts throughout our state.

On view at MONA now through October 11, 2026.

Mini Mural Spotlight: Daniel Castaneda ("Sedra D"), Omaha
Title: Cosmic Rabbit/Conejo Cósmico | Acrylic

Daniel is an interdisciplinary artist who blends ancestral knowledge, community storytelling and hands-on craftsmanship into murals, sculptures and immersive experiences. His work carries color, spirit and intention and is rooted in culture.

Applications are due Sept. 8 to be one of our featured 2027 gallery artists in the Iron Horse Arts District!

We’re looking for artists working in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, mixed media, printmaking and more. Whether you’re an emerging artist or an established creator, we’d love to see your work. Not ready for a solo show? Team up with another artist.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work in our new gallery space and other locations throughout the Iron Horse Arts District.

What an honor it was to hear the stories behind the sculptures created by Holdrege's own George Lundeen! Thanks to everyone who attended Friday night's special event in the new Iron Horse Art Gallery and to the Holdrege High School Class of 1966 for their sponsorship. George graduated with the Class of 1966, and several of his classmates attended the event.

George told us the stories behind many of his sculptures, including Davy Crockett (which stands in front of the Alamo), Amelia Earhart, and Dick Butkus. George has a gift for storytelling and humor, and this night proved it. We laughed, we cried, and we were inspired. Thank you, George Lundeen (Lundeen Sculpture)!

An extra special moment was when a guest asked George how he wants to be remembered, and George replied, "as just a kid from Holdrege, Nebraska!"

You can view (or purchase!) 19 of George's sculptures through Sept. 16 at the Iron Horse Art Gallery at 401 East Ave. in Holdrege. What a great night for live music in the Iron Horse Arts District! We had guests from as far away as Illinois, Kansas City and western Nebraska join us for the fun.
