The front window turned out to be held together by optimism and old paint. . Even grandpa couldn’t believe it.

We responded by opening up the wall and accidentally inventing natural ventilation.

Problem solved. Probably.

At this point, we’re not sure if we’re restoring a historic building or just participating in whatever adventure it has planned for us that day.

This weekend was… a character builder.

The HVAC decided it no longer believes in working. The building briefly considered becoming a sauna. We did not approve that business model.

Meanwhile, we still had our first line dance night, a few tours, and already-booked brides walking through like everything was perfectly normal and not mildly unhinged behind the scenes.

So if you came in this weekend and thought, “wow, this place has vibes,” you’re correct. The vibe was survival.

We’re fixing what needs fixing, adapting where we can, and somehow still opening the doors like nothing is happening (because events don’t wait for air conditioning, apparently).

Anyway, thank you for showing up, dancing anyway, touring anyway, and trusting us with your events while we quietly question all of our life choices in the background.

This place is very much alive. Sometimes too alive.

Peeking behind the scenes at our kind of chaos.

What you see is only part of it.

The rest is timing, coordination, instinct, problem-solving, and a whole lot of care for what this place is becoming.

It shifts constantly but it never loses direction. It doesn’t sit still for long, and honestly, neither do we.

But there’s something about it that feels like it’s always been meant to be this alive.

And I’m reminded that all those late nights, hard conversations, and crazy decisions turned into something real.

June 1 feels like a good day to admit that we’re mostly making this up as we go.😉

A year ago this building was full of possibilities. Today it’s full of parties, tours, bookings, projects, and a to-do list that somehow keeps getting longer no matter how many things we cross off.😅

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’re especially looking forward to Friday night. After the Holden, MO Cruise Nights wraps up, we’ll be opening the doors for our First Friday Line Dancing at The Matchbook, and we can’t wait to fill this building with music, dancing, and a little bit of chaos.

When we bought this building, I spent a lot of time imagining what it might feel like one day when it was full of people.

Now we’re wrapping up our graduation season, and I find myself standing here grateful.

Grateful for every family that has trusted us while we’re still building.

Grateful for every celebration that has filled this old space with new memories.

That will never stop feeling a little surreal.

A year ago this was just an idea.

Today I’m standing under a black ceiling in an 1870s building wondering how any of this became real.

There is still work to do, but moments like this make every late night, every hard decision, and every ounce of faith worth it. 🖤
