It’s almost that time!!!

Over the past weekend, I had the honor of delivering a couple custom commissioned Bibles. I’ve been waiting until they got delivered to post the progress step-by-step. Over the next few days, I will post the images. I am looking forward to sharing as I think this is some of the best work I’ve ever created. 

This particular one is my favorite.
Matthew 5:14-16 “ You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

I usually work with a limited pallet of about four colors.
But today, I thought it would be really cool, if I did a rainbow of colors on a floral design. If it comes out, it’s gonna look really neat!

Shout out to Barry Teghtmeyer who suggested colored or white pencils for drawing in my books when I couldn’t see the graphite. It is working wonders! And I love that I can also erase fairly well with them!!
Game changer for me!

Today we (my daughter and I) took a trip to the art store!

She asked “Mom can I pick you out a color?”

I said sure! Because I just saw her eye light up when she saw it, and I knew the exact color she was going to pick for me.

Making ugly art!

Sometimes, as an artist, you make ugly art!
Not every work of art that an artist makes is pretty, and they are satisfied with it. We don’t show you the ugly art. We only show you the art that came out well and we are proud of or satisfied with.

I think it’s important for the average person to know that ugly art happens, the artist who stick with it take it and stride. They think to themselves that didn’t work. They put it to the side and they start again.

To be a truly exceptional artist, you are gonna make ugly art. So the real question is.
Will you stick with it and power through or will you quit when the ugly art comes out?

I hope you stick with it. I hope you move on and make something beautiful the next time!

While waiting for other work to dry, I am trying out a new concept, that hopefully will allow me to make more art in a smaller storage space. We will see.
