¿DID YOU KNOW?

Holbrook, AZ has one of only two right angle turns left on route 66 ( according to a report from ADOT).

Of course when the route was originally built from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA (approximately 2,448 miles) there were many right angle turns along the way. Many of which were in downtown areas, including 4 that were in Depew, OK, however many were bypassed in 1928.

The 90 degree turn here in Holbrook has a cute little park, Gillespie Park. Recently added to the corner is a big bench, were you can sit on the corner of route 66. Also while visiting the park and bench you can see the newly redone mural. The mural was painted by Liz Nichols Art, one of our local artist.

🌟ARTIST SPOTLIGHT🌟

Wilson Price Sr.

Mr. Price is Navajo sand painter from Sheep Springs, NM. He is known for his traditional Yei figures, ceremonial themes, and scenes from Navajo culture.

Wilson is recognized for his sand paintings, which is a traditional Navajo art form involving intricate symbolic imagery created with locally sourced sand and plant-based dyes.

We have one of his sand paintings here at the Gallery. It is of a YEI-BEI-CHAI. There is a handwritten note on the back, along with his signature. This piece is previously loved, however it is still very beautiful. If you like this piece and are interested please reach out to us.

🎊FUN FACT FRIDAY🎊

Did you know that Holbrook has a park where you can view 900+ petroglyphs?

It is not the Petrified Forest National Park, although they do have a lot of petroglyphs (rock art) at several places throughout the park.

I am talking about O'Dell Hidden Cove Park. This Park is owned and operated by the city of Holbrook and was named after Michael O'Dell after his passing in 2022. Mike was dedicated to the protection and preservation of the park.

While visiting the park not only will you see petroglyphs, but you will also be able to encounter local wildlife. Ranging from deer, lizards, bats, and squirrels to name a few, also more than 200 species of birds. Plus you will see the ruins of the Zuck Historic Ranch which is believed to be more than a century old.

If you would like to plan a trip, the park has a website you can check out and you can also contact the city for information.

We had this brought into the gallery to display. (It is NOT for sale). The portrait is of Kee Tsinnie a Korean War veteran. Done by his grandson Ace Reztone for Kee's daughter Vee Plower. Vee is letting us display to show her nephews art work.

We will only have this for a short time so be sure to stop by and check out this beautiful art work.
