!!PRINT RELEASE!!

Wingate Studio is pleased to announce the release of Summer’s Close, a new five-plate color aquatint etching by Nancy Friese, drawn directly from the landscape and created outdoors, on location, on coated copper.

The title carries two meanings: “summer’s ending,” as the season gives way to fall, and “summer is close,” suggesting the season’s warmth and presence still at hand. Together, they hold the arc of summer between arrival and departure, presence and passing.

Wingate Studio is pleased to announce a new etching by John McAllister .o.h.n.mcallister entitled flume aflame sonorous seeming, 2024.

The six-plate aquatint etching is McAllister’s first collaboration with Wingate Studio. McAllister used sugar lift and spit bite aquatint processes to compose his image on six copper plates with arched tops.

Congratulations to Jeremy Frey on the opening of his retrospective, WOVEN, at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The show features his handwoven baskets created in the time-honored Passamaquoddy basket weaving tradition, as well as a series of unique monoprints created by the artist at Wingate Studio.

Frey is a seventh generation Passamaquoddy basket weaver who learned traditional Wabanaki basket weaving from his mother and during apprenticeships at the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance. In his intricate and highly refined weavings, Frey uses natural materials that he selectively harvests, such as black ash and sweetgrass.

To create his monoprints, Frey worked with collaborative printers at Wingate Studio to directly translate his weavings creating almost photographic impressions. The monoprints are printed on thick handmade paper to capture the delicate details, dimensionality, and textures of Frey’s weavings.
