I studied painting and ceramics growing up and earned my degree in painting first. I learned how to grind in the studio as a painter, but a decade in pottery kept that reality very alive for me.

Now, I am bringing that exact discipline back to my first love. Returning to these landscapes feels like catching my breath.

A new collection of fine art prints is coming very soon.

“Beach Plums At the Lake”
Oil, Acrylic, and Mixed Media on canvas
36x28”

This piece began in 2010 as the second half of a
landscape diptych. 16 years later I have returned to
the canvas to layer collage and acrylic over the
original oil base. The imagery is rooted in the
overgrown beach plum paths of Green Harbor. I
love how the path climbs the dunes and drops
down to dump you out at the best beach around.

While my home beach has an endless ocean
horizon, this painting has merged that place with thoughts of my aunt’s house on a lake with
mountains where I spend time with my family.

It has become a dream where different places I love
have merged together as one. I get a punch to the
gut thinking about this communication I’m having
with my 24 year old self.

I am telling her through art making that everything will work out and all of her dreams will come true. As my 40 year old self I now know this to be true.

This piece is a sixteen year collaboration with my younger self. It spent a long time as a somber study of dried flowers, but last Fall I decided to finally rewrite the story.

The magic of the process really revealed itself in the layers. After instinctively washing the background in transparent indigo, I discovered the National Geographic collage I used featured women whose hands were stained indigo for a celebration.

The color found its way in before I even knew the history of the images.

You can see this painting live in the flesh now at Kingston and purchase it through my website.

I plan to make some prints too, so keep an eye out for those if you want a piece of this story in your home🌷

“A Walk Through the Terraced Garden”
Acrylic and ink on paper

Not available as I gifted it to my mother for her birthday. The woman who raised me gardening next to her.

I’m so grateful to her for creating in me an intuitive sense of what to do in the garden. And also grateful for this book of photography (which my mom bought me!) that helped get me through the winter. Claire Takacs is a phenomenal garden photographer and if you haven’t seen her work yet you really must!
