The Hingham Singers are a dedicated mixed choral ensemble that sings music ranging from traditional classical choir works to rock and roll. The group evolved from members of the Hingham 375th Anniversary Chorus under its founder Dr. Paul K Cappers in 2010. David Wanner will lead the Hingham Singers in 2023-2024 season. Below is the mission of the Hingham Singers:
1. The Hingham Singers is open to
new singers by audition. New members join us every year, though the core of the members is consistent year to year. Members from previous years do not have to re-audition.
2. Common qualities of members include excellent intonation, a low-vibrato tone, and a desire to present polished performances. Ability to read music is extremely valuable, but we have excellent, important members who are not strong music readers.
3. Our goal is to do SATB, TTBB, SSAA, and SSAATTBB literature in all degreesof difficulty from simple to complex.
4. We perform mostly in the a ca****la style but do not limit ourselves to that genre. Appropriate choral pieces that are accompanied by piano or orchestra are a common part of our repertoire. Our mission includes a goal of doing music in a wide variety of styles: that is, Western Europeanclassical, American folk and Early American composed, spirituals, popular recorded, and folk songs from countries throughout the world.
5. Staff: The Hingham Singers is directed by a professional choral conductor. All rehearsals are accompanied by a professional pianist who also plays ome accompaniments in performance as appropriate.
