A great record collection tells a story—and our Music Director, John Morris Russell, has plenty of stories to share.

For Vinyl Record Day, we're giving you a glimpse into JMR's personal collection, including Harlem Renaissance—the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra’s newest recording. The album features pianist Marcus Roberts, who captivated HHSO audiences last season, and trumpeter Etienne Charles, who will take the stage this October as part of Symphony Under the Stars.

It's a reminder that the artists we welcome to Hilton Head Island are part of something much bigger, connecting our community to extraordinary musicians and performances from around the world.

Talent runs in the family 🎶

This Sons & Daughters Day, we're celebrating a few of the musical families who make the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra community so special.

🎻 Sandra Nikolajevs (HHSO second bassoon) and Timothy O'Malley (former HHSO principal cellist) are passing their love of music to their son, Peter O'Malley, a Hilton Head Chamber Music Institute participant.

🎻 Lizhou Liu, our longtime principal violist, and fellow violist Yvonne Johnson have done the same with their son, Oskar Johnson-Liu, a Youth Concerto Competition participant and two-time Hilton Head Chamber Music Institute participant.

Watching parents and children share a passion for music is one of the greatest reminders that the arts don't just create performances—they create legacies.
