The Youth Arts Series

The Youth Arts Series (YAS) is East Hawai‘i Cultural Center’s island-wide youth art education and outreach program.

YAS provides students with affordable opportunities to engage with their senses, explore creative thinking, develop artistic skills, and connect all of these into meaningful expressions of their experiences. Our goal is for students to learn that art can serve many different purposes throughout their lives - as a way of celebrating or being playful, as a tool for working through emotions or thoughts, and as a powerful means of communicating a message.

A moment for the Haunted Houses! ⁣
One of the best parts of Fall Break Art Camp were the Haunted Houses. ⁣
These Halloween themed immersive art installations were the culmination of so much creativity and hard work from the Art Camp students, Camp instructors, and our generous community collaborators. ⁣

It's our birthday month!⁣ 🎈
This month we'll be taking a look back at the last 10 years of YAS. ⁣
Since it's Fall Break this week, we're starting off with our Fall Break Halloween Art Camps. ⁣
⁣
The very first YAS program was a Fall Break Art Camp back in 2016 (not Halloween themed). We took a break in 2017 and came back in 2018 with our very first Halloween Camp, a collaboration with UH Hilo's Center for Community Engagement. ⁣
⁣
We absolutely love Halloween around here! We hit pause on Camp this Fall Break in order to focus on our 10th Birthday celebration, Halloween Camp will be back next year!⁣🎃
