Hillsboro Artists' Regional Theatre - HART YOUR Live Community Theatre—Right in the HART of Hillsboro!

HART Theatre is dedicated to enriching the greater Hillsboro community by providing quality live performing arts at a reasonable price. Overseen by a dedicated board of directors consisting of various community members and arts supporters, Friends of HART has grown HART into a respected live community performance theatre that produces a regular season of creative, clever, and entertaining plays in its newly created 99-seat theatre.

Performance Dates: 10/9/2026 - 10/25/2026
HART is a volunteer-based community theatre. There is no pay or stipend.

Audition Sides and Songs will be emailed starting no later than June 12, 2026 to ONLY those signed up to audition. The sides will come as a packet and you may choose one song and one scene to prepare. Hint: Look the song up on Youtube to learn the melody, but don’t try to sing like the actor, sing like you! The sides do not need to be memorized, but should be prepared. Please keep the text in your hands while you audition. Headshots and resumes are welcome but not required.

Requirements for auditions:
Acting: Come prepared with the sides provided. The director will be looking for vocal, facial, and physical creativity and expression.

Vocals: Please prepare one song from the audition packet, we will provide the music. You may also be asked to sing a song like “Happy Birthday” and “Row, Row, Row, Your Boat,” and be asked to sing in a group and solo.
Dance: No need to prepare anything, but please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers or dance shoes. No flip flops, sandals, or crocs.

Dates of Auditions:
Auditions are open for youth ages 7-18
Scheduled Auditions: June 27-28, 12:00 to 4:30p
(You only need to attend one of the days)

Location: The Downtown HIVE, 233 SE Washington St. Hillsboro Artists' Regional Theatre - HART

Callbacks: June 29, 6:00 pm. This is for actors who auditioned at the open auditions and directors want to look at again. Please do not attend unless the director has asked you to, or you have made special arrangements with the director prior.

Calling All Playwrights!
HART has two submission opportunities opening soon for New Works.

Tales Told in the Dark:
Submissions open July 1 and close August 15, 2026.
We're looking for short spooky, mysterious, suspenseful, and dark theatrical pieces for performances on October 29 & 30.
Staged Readings. 5-15 pages. New Works Only.

Fertile Ground @ HART 2027
Submissions open July 15 and close September 15, 2026.
We're looking for original new works. Any genre.
Performance Dates: April 2027
Staged Readings. 10-110 Pages.

Submission spots are limited this year. Fertile Ground will accept the first 30 submissions, and Tales Told in the Dark will accept the first 25 submissions.

If you've been kicking around an idea, polishing a script, or waiting for a reason to finish that draft, now's a good time to start working. More details, guidelines, and submission links will be posted soon.We can't wait to see what stories you're bringing to the stage.

Learn How to Audition for Live Theatre! 🎭
Want to land your dream role? Join HART Artistic Director Harrison Butler for a hands-on workshop on mastering theatre auditions!

​Audition Workshop Details: Participants will receive a monologue to prepare leading up to the workshop. You may also choose your own monologue to present, feel free to bring audition material you may have for an upcoming audition. The material does not have to be memorized, but the more you prepare, the further you will get. You can download that information after signing up for the class. 🍷 AUDITIONS: Drinking Habits 🍷
HART Theatre is seeking actors for this hilarious farce directed by Kraig Williams! Auditions will be held July 11-12 at The Downtown HIVE in Hillsboro. Rehearsals begin August 3, with performances September 12-27.

Characters Include:
--Sister Philamena (20s–40s) – A sweet, joyful nun whose honesty makes keeping secrets nearly impossible.
--Sister Augusta (20s–40s) – A spirited nun determined to save her convent at any cost.
--George (20s–30s)– A lovable groundskeeper caught in the middle of the chaos.
--Mother Superior (40s–60s) – The stern head of the convent with a few tricks of her own.
--Paul (20s–30s) – An ambitious reporter posing as a priest.
--Sally (20s–30s) – A clever reporter disguised as a nun.
--Sister Mary Catherine/Kate (20s–30s) – A nervous newcomer whose secret fuels the confusion.
--Father Chenille (40s–60s) – A local priest trying to keep up with the madness.

(Flexible ages and all experience levels are encouraged to audition!)

🌟 Fall down the rabbit hole with HART! 🌟
Auditions for Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. are open for youth ages 7–18! Join us for this magical adventure directed by Marsha Kelly. Auditions will be held June 27–28 (you only need to attend one day) at The Downtown HIVE in Hillsboro, with performances running October 9–25, 2026. A parent or guardian must attend auditions with performers under 18.

HART welcomes both new and returning actors and is committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming audition experience for performers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Audition materials will be emailed to registered auditioners, and no memorization is required. HART is a volunteer-based community theatre, and all roles are unpaid.
