Liam Ramos is a child. And what is being done to him, and to so many others, will be felt for a hundred years.
When a child is taken from their caregivers, the harm does not end when the child is released or reunited. It wires itself into the body. It reshapes how safety, trust, love, and belonging are experienced. These are the kinds of injuries that echo across decades, into parenting, relationships, community, health, and identity. This is how generational trauma is made.

The Trump administration’s and ICE’s fascist policies do not just harm families in one moment, they deliberately create trauma that is felt in the whole system.

There is nothing patriotic about destroying families, terrorizing children, abducting our neighbors, and calling cruelty “national security”. This is how you hollow out a nation from the inside.

Immigrants are our neighbors. Our siblings. Our children. Families belong together.

This work is grief, rage, and action, because silence is also an attachment wound.

Shout out to the protestors who are staying loud.

This painting is a letter to a past version of me—
the one who wanted children with their whole chest.

Choosing not to have them felt like letting thy version of me down.
Like closing a door they once stood in front of with open arms.
I can still feel their grief in my body.

And at the same time, I am someone else now.
A different nervous system.
A different sense of safety.
Living in a completely different world than she did.

This piece holds all of it:
the love and yearning that didn’t disappear,
the grief that still deserves space,
and the truth that choosing safety and my own purpose can coexist with sorrow.

I am sorry— and I have no regrets.

I was thinking about words from someone I met in a creative process group recently on how winter is the “bottom of the bowl” of the year. This piece is about the heaviness that one person carries, the pressure of feeling like you’re holding the whole ocean alone. I’ve been thinking about the deep pain and tragedies happening in Minneapolis and across the US. I’ve been thinking about how holding this much, a whole ocean, is only possible in broader community. I’ve seen how people have shown up, through protesting and organizing. Making it less heavy to hold. And when the ocean is held by the whole community, it can be one of the most powerful forces in the world. Grateful for the helpers showing up to hold everything. Everyone has their role in the resistance, keep showing up.
