Did you know that Jon Crane uses a technique called "Dry Brush" to complete his watercolor paintings?

Dry brushing is a method where a damp, well-blotted brush is dragged lightly across textured watercolor paper, depositing pigment only on the raised areas while leaving the valleys untouched. This produces marks that add depth and texture to the painting, often referred to as “dry-on-dry” or “drybrushing.”

The painting featured is "Sylvan Sunrise." The prints are available at our gallery in Hill City and on our website.

Jon Crane has done 3 different paintings of the Chapel in the Hills in the last 10 years, each featuring the church through a different season. All illustrate the changing beauty that surrounds the chapel throughout the year, which one would you hang in your home?

"Come Sit With Me" invites you to slow down, listen, and share stories with friends while the world’s beauty unfolds just beyond the railing. Jon included his favorite and well-thumbed birding book in this painting to evoke a gentle pace of birdwatching on the porch of this cabin near Pactola Lake.
