Remembering Peter Max ✨

Art Highlands Gallery is deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Max, one of the most recognizable and influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. At 88, Max leaves behind an extraordinary artistic legacy defined by radiant color, cosmic imagery, whimsical figures, and an unmistakable sense of optimism.

Born in Berlin in 1937, Max and his family fled N**i Germany during his childhood, eventually settling in New York, where he studied at the Art Students League. He began his career in graphic design before turning his full attention toward painting in the 1960s. His vibrant, psychedelic style became synonymous with the era's counterculture and flower-power movement, transforming the visual landscape of American popular culture. His work went far beyond the gallery walls, appearing on posters, postage stamps, album covers, airplanes, cruise ships, and major sporting events.

Throughout his remarkable career, Max continued to explore color, movement, freedom, and the wonder of the universe. His work can be found in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, and his imagery remains instantly recognizable generations later.

We are honored to have two Peter Max paintings currently in the Art Highlands Gallery,
allowing our visitors to experience a piece of this remarkable legacy firsthand.

His art reminds us to embrace color, imagination, and possibility — and we are grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate his extraordinary life and work here in Highlands.

Thank you, Peter Max, for making the world a little more colorful. 🌈✨
