Meet Karen - Director!

I think my favorite part of being backstage is seeing the machinations we have put in place finally work! All the juggling and rearranging that goes on with all the set pieces, props, and people is fascinating when it all comes together. Many folks would be surprised at how many hours the directors spend preparing the show before auditions are even held...so many hours.

If I were an Addams, my weird talent would be caring for Thing! When you're just a hand, you need a lot of help. Thing is the most likely to cause a backstage disaster...accidentally or otherwise! Thing is very rowdy!!

Probably the creepiest experience I've ever had while doing a show was many years ago in Wichita, Kansas. We were doing The Curious Savage, and we kept hearing the strangest sounds backstage. The sounds were random but noticeable, and we were spooked! Turns out, a Mama Cat had decided to have her litter of kitties behind the wall on Stage Right. We were relieved and thrilled! And no, one did not "follow me home"!

I am so proud of my cast and crew, grateful for my fellow directors, greatly appreciative of Studio B admin, and in awe of the talent everyone has shared. Live Theatre...nothing like it, nothing better!! Enjoy the show!!!

Meet Connie - Music Director!

Connie's favorite part of being backstage is watching all of the actors bring their characters to life. When asked what one of the things that is surprising about being the Music Director is, Connie said that when a show goes through as many revisions as this one has, the changes often don't make it into all the things. The music director's job eventually becomes trying to make sense of a script that's different from the score, which are different from the tracks.

If she were an Addams her weird talent would be making the perfect creepy playlist for dinner parties. As for who would be most likely to cause a backstage disaster, Connie believes it would be Pugsley and Grandma - most definitely. Full disclosure!

The kookiest thing she has encountered as part of a show might be the concert scene during the pick up rehearsal of "The Sound of Music" here at Studio B.

Meet Erica - Choreographer!

Erica's favorite part of being backstage is watching chaos and calm intertwine in a beautiful waltz. Hard work and emotion come together and create cohesive artistry amongst a team of people. It’s truly amazing to be a part of. But most of all, she loves being everyone's cheerleader, hyping the cast up as they head into the wings, and celebrating with them the moment they step offstage. Something surprising about being the choreographer is that as a choreographer, a pause or stillness in choreography is just as important as a dance move.

If Erica was an Addams family member her weird talent would be a puppet master. With just a look she would enchant people, binding their movement to her whim. Erica thinks Grandma would be the character to cause the most trouble backstage. She is seemingly innocent, that silent type that provides the tools of chaos and just sits back to watch the discord….because it’s fun.

Erica says one of the kookiest things that has happened in a show is giving choreography to the cast only for the show to roll around and the choreography is completely different than what was taught…. but somehow everyone is synchronized in doing the same “not choreographed” thing.

Meet Alexis - Stage Manager and Lights Designer

Alexis' favourite part about working backstage is seeing everyone get ready for whatever is next for them. One surprise about her stage manager job is that she ends up memorising just about everyone's placements just from writing blocking notes ( ). Regarding being the lighting designer, Alexis racks up serious screen time on the calculator app.

When asked what weird talent she would have if she was an Addams, she said that although she’d love to be able to stop time, she’d probably get the ability to detach her limbs and move them independently, like Thing.

Alexis thinks Fester, with his love for pranks, would cause a backstage disaster. The creepiest thing that’s happened during a show that she's been involved in is, when she's at the theatre alone at night, there are many odd noises that occur and it’s quite unsettling.

Meet Abby - Lights and Sound Technician

Abby's favourite part of being part of the crew is collaborating with such a creative, passionate and talented group of people to create a seamless show! You may be surprised to know that by the end of the show, you end up memorizing it because you spend more time looking at the script instead of the stage for your cues!

If Abby were an Addams, her weird talent would be "creative camouflage"! She would always be appearing out of thin air!

When asked which character she thinks would be most likely to accidentally cause a backstage disaster, Abby reckons it would be FESTER!

The creepiest thing that Abby remembers happening in a show she worked on, was when working on In The Heights, she had a couple rehearsals where they had to visit the prop storage unit super late at night and the lights kept going out! The unit was across campus, huge and full of (possibly!) haunted items.

🖤 ADDAMS FAMILY CAST SPOTLIGHTS🖤:

Shayleigh A.W. as Morticia Addams and Bill S. as Gomez Addams!

With 20 years of theatre experience, Shayleigh says her favorite role is…this one! She’s thrilled to bring such an iconic character to life. If she had to choose, Shayleigh would rather play the villain, would always sing rather than dance, and—perhaps surprisingly—identifies most with Thing! We can’t wait to see her take on the incomparable Morticia Addams.

With an incredible 50 years of theatre experience, Bill brings plenty of stage experience to the role of Gomez! His favorite role was Andrew in Love Letters, opposite his wife. What excites him most about The Addams Family? The people here. Bill would rather play the villain and would choose to always sing rather than dance!
