✨ Community, Connection & Education Under the Stars ✨

It was a pleasure welcoming the UTRGV Bilingual Department to our beautiful Hidalgo Pumphouse in the Historic District on Wednesday, October 14!

The remarkable work you do for our community, the Rio Grande Valley, and all of South Texas is both inspiring and meaningful. Our conversations reflected an important truth: community is always first. No matter which region we call home, we share connections, common goals, and the opportunity to build a stronger future together.

Education holds the key to opening doors, bridging differences, and breaking down the walls that separate us. When people come together with a shared purpose, meaningful connections grow, new opportunities emerge, and our communities become stronger.

The evening continued with a wonderful dinner under the stars, surrounded by the natural beauty and historic charm of our beloved Pumphouse grounds. 🌟

Thank you, UTRGV Bilingual Department, for spending this special evening with us and for the important work you continue to do for our region.

Connecting Our Past, Preserving Our Future

In a historic first for the Rio Grande Valley, the **Hidalgo Historical Commission** visited the Edinburg Museum of South Texas History for a guided tour dedicated to learning more about the people, places, and events that shaped our region.

The Rio Grande Valley shares a rich history, with connections that reach back hundreds of years. Throughout our visit, we exchanged ideas, shared perspectives, and explored opportunities for future collaboration to strengthen our commitment to preserving and sharing the stories that define South Texas.

A heartfelt thank-you to **Dr. Francisco Guajardo and his team** for their warm hospitality and for making us feel right at home. It was truly inspiring to experience so much of our regional history brought together under one roof.

One especially meaningful moment was discovering the museum’s dedicated exhibit featuring our very own **Historic Hidalgo Pumphouse** — a treasured landmark that represents an important part of Hidalgo’s heritage and our shared regional story. Seeing it recognized in this special way reminds us why preserving our history matters: it connects generations, strengthens community pride, and inspires future possibilities.

Special recognition goes to the **Hidalgo Historical Commission**, the first organization of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas, for helping advance historic preservation and cultural awareness in our community.

🎣🐟 THE FISH ARE HERE!

The Historic Fishing Channel at the Hidalgo Pumphouse is ready for some fishing fun! 🌿

Through the Texas Parks & Wildlife Habitat and Angler Access Program (HAAP), more than 700 catfish were released this Fall into our 6-acre lake, adding to the bass, bluegill and other fish already calling it home.

Bring the family, grab your fishing gear and come enjoy one more reason to Tour Your City! 🎣☀️

Did you know there’s plenty of activity happening beneath the surface at the **Historic Hidalgo Fishing Lake**? 🐟

As part of the **Habitat and Angler Access Program (HAAP)**, **Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD)** and the **City of Hidalgo**, through the **Hidalgo EDC**, are working together to monitor fish populations and support healthy habitat and outdoor recreation.

Our fishing lake has **different fishing decks ready for anglers**, and our **kayak launch is getting a makeover!** 🛶✨

From fishing and kayaking to birding, wildlife, and exploring our Historic District, **ecotourism and outdoor recreation are becoming an important part of the Hidalgo experience.**

So grab your fishing gear, bring the family, and come see what’s happening in your own backyard!

🎭 TALES OF THE HIDALGO PUMPHOUSE — A NIGHT OF HISTORY & ART 🏛️❤️

Last Saturday, September 5th, the Hidalgo Pumphouse Museum and World Birding Center came alive through the power of live theater as the Pharr Community Theater presented “Tales of the Hidalgo Pumphouse.”

Through storytelling, local history, and the arts, audiences had the opportunity to connect with the people, stories, and legacy behind one of Hidalgo’s most treasured landmarks.

A special thank you to Lucio G. Rivera & Pedro Garcia, Director Pedro Garcia, the Pharr Community Theater, our local partners, volunteers, staff, and everyone who helped make this special evening possible.

Preserving history is more than protecting buildings — it is preserving the stories, culture, and memories that connect generations. Events like this demonstrate how important the arts are in keeping those stories alive.

As we continue revitalizing and preserving the Hidalgo Historic District, we encourage everyone to support local artists, attend local events, and SHOP LOCAL. When we invest in our community, we help preserve its past while creating opportunities for its future.
