The Redhawk Publications family extends its sincere condolences to the Jones family. Working with Dr. Clarence B. Jones on his memoir "The Last of the Lions" was a unique honor. We fondly remember his wisdom with adults and his generosity toward young people.

Big thanks to the Charlotte Writers Club and Dave Collins (L) for inviting Press 53's Kevin Watson (R) and me to talk about publishing during their May meeting. I enjoyed hearing what Press 53 is up to and was impressed by the room full of engaged writers!

Ron Rash, Rhonda White, David C. Dickson, Tim Peeler, & Patty Thompson will visit City Lights on Thursday, May 21st at 6:00pm to share their new short story anthology, APPALACHIAN GRIT LIT.

There exists a certain form of truth that is not presented in a polished manner. Instead, it manifests in a raw, weathered, and hard-earned state. Welcome to Appalachian Grit Lit—a compelling anthology rooted in the mountains, where narratives embody the significance of place, memory, and resilience. This collection assembles voices from the region—writers who do not merely visit Appalachia but live, breathe, and understand its complexities intimately. Grit lit, an emerging subgenre of American literature, combines the starkness of noir with the inevitability inherent in Greek tragedy. However, within Appalachia, grit signifies more than violence or despair; it embodies endurance, resilience in rebuilding after devastation, grace amid hardship, and a steadfast refusal to relinquish dignity in the face of overwhelming circumstances.

You'll have to excuse my enthusiasm, but when a debut title comes out by a new poet, it's very exciting for all!

Redhawk is extremely proud of Angela for her collection and excited for the public's reaction.

Congrats, Angela! You've given birth to an amazing collection.

Redhawk Publications never forgets our roots. We are firmly planted in the Foothills of North Carolina, right in the heart of where most furniture was made. It's worth sharing its history. Check out this educational and engaging short documentary on Western North Carolina furniture history: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0f0C5TR6lw

And don't forget, we have the authoritative book on the subject, "Well-Crafted: The History of Furniture Manufacturing in Western North Carolina." Richard Eller is not only the ultimate authority on the topic but also the author of the book! A great Father's Day gift. Or a late Mother's Day gift: https://tinyurl.com/RichardEllerWellCrafted
