At the beginning of the year, the inception of Fossil Fuel was sparked by the revelation that my storefront offered a viable space to expand and supplement the lack of eating establishments within Hettinger. Not to mention the fact that life size dinosaur statues now occupied the lot across the street.
Quickly and spontaneously, the front end was converted into a small pizza parlor/ arcade and in the blink of an eye, a room that was never intended to produce food was now a fully functional commercial, state-certified kitchen.
As most would know, Fossil Fuel occupies the former storefront for Graphic Attic- a design and apparel decorating company that has been established locally for over 30 years.
When Fossil Fuel was implemented, it created a very nice supplement to Graphic Attic, creating two full-time businesses within the same walls. It somehow worked despite how psychotic things got here and there.
But something funny happened...
Graphic Attic began to grow despite relinquishing its storefront to Fossil Fuel.
As business has continued, it has grown harder and harder to balance both establishments. I could not ignore or neglect the growth of my primary business and with that, I made the decision to reduce Fossil Fuel's operating hours in half.
But then something even funnier happened...
Without a storefront presence and without traditional operating hours with a locked front door, Graphic Attic has continued to grow with further demand for printed apparel and design services.
Now here I am, on the brink of 2025, and I can't help but feel there is an important decision to be made here. It's important to me that Graphic Attic returns to the forefront and receives the attention it needs and deserves to continue growing and expanding. It's also not fair to neglect Fossil Fuel and not be committed to serving great, unique pizza and Tw***ie Weiner Sandwiches.
Therefore, I've decided to let it go. Whether it be to someone new, or retooling the business and dialing it down to a seasonal (Summer) expedition out of a mobile trailer. Fossil Fuel is not going extinct, but unless something changes in the weeks ahead, it is being put on ice as of 2025.
This decision is something I take lightly, I've struggled for weeks to determine what the next step should be.
Looking at the big picture, Fossil Fuel was born in a time when finding good food at all hours of the day was scarce. Given the fact that Hettinger has seen a positive boom in the realm of food is so wonderful and I'm grateful that I got to spend time in that corner.
But now, it's time for me to return to mine.
Fossil Fuel will continue to operate while supplies last. Or at the very latest, the end of 2024. Please take this time to indulge in our signature pizzas while you still can!
As for Graphic Attic, I'm excited to continue nurturing and growing this business to its fullest extent. There are more services I intend to offer as time goes on and I'm also eager to, once again, transform this space into something new and needed within the community. Something that further compliments Graphic Attic- just not pizza. This new renovation will need to separate the restaurant feel.
In the meantime, Fossil Fuel will be liquidating furniture, appliances, vehicles and several other components to make way for new changes going into the new year. If you or someone you know is at all interested in anything in the realm of pizza, please contact me.
My hope is that if there is someone in the area with an interest in picking up Fossil Fuel or running with the idea of pizza, I'd love to talk! I can't help but notice that there is a building for sale directly across the street that comes with a very nice pizza oven... just sayin'.
I want to say 'Thank You!' to everyone for all their support and desire to eat some weird pizza in 2024. My body was built by pizza, which is why my torso is so lumpy and disproportioned. I really do love Fossil Fuel and all its quirks, features, and aesthetics and my heart is full knowing that it struck a chord with so many people in such a short period of time.
Let's have some fun as the ice age looms. It may be cold outside, but as long as it's December, we'll keep the fire going and food coming! See you tomorrow!
