the SKATERY was a family-friendly roller rink, catering to families, teens, children & senior citizens with age-appropriate music and sessions. We offered skating classes & private lessons, with many of our students bringing home State & Regional medals. Our birthday parties, FUNd-raisers, and private parties were very popular because we enjoyed a good reputation with local schools and churches. B

y 2014 Mr & Mrs "M" were in their late 70s and decided to retire. The family that bought our facility led us to believe they would continue our legacy. Apparently, it was too much work for those 30-somethings, because they closed down the skating after only 2 years, in favor for their other businesses. Check in often for postings about the old days at the SKATERY ... and to see how the old gang is doing!

Get Ready to Roll (or just visit!)

DATE: August 3, 2025
TIME: 5-7 PM
WHERE: Sunset Rink, Shamokin Dam
COST: It will be Mrs M's treat. Just rent skates if you outgrew yours
WHO: Anyone who skated with us any time between 1988 and 2014 is welcome, along with spouses, children, grandchildren, etc!
If you aren't able to skate, come anyway and visit!

For those of you who skated with us in the early years, you'll want to be sure to get there! Sally will be accompanying me this time, so I'm extra excited!

I will soon be 89, so it is anyone's guess how many more times I'll be able to do this trip, so please come!

I hope you can make it. Presently, I'm in excellent health, but at my age, only God knows how long that will last, so I'm really looking forward to a LOT of hugs this trip!!!!

A bit of nostalgia! ... Remember the Disco Balls at the SKATERY?

Today I was in the Dollar Tree for one item and the fellow ahead of me had a miniature mirror ball. Of course, I HAD to get off the line to get one!

Hung it in a west window to catch the evening sun and this is the result! I'm playing some of Marty Dumic's organ music, recorded at our rink and swirling that ball with glee! I almost want to get another!!!

The framed picture of "Dick & Jane" on the right was a gift from Doris Hoke, a skating friend, in memory of our son Donald Jr, when he passed away almost 30 years ago

The first annual SKATERY Reunion took place on Sunday, August 28. It was held at Sunset Rink Hummels Warf, PA. Admission was compliments of the SKATERY.
I estimate that about 60 attended, with some in their 80s. Many who were teens last I saw them brought their children, who skated for the first time.
