Xuejuan Dance Ensemble, formed in 2009 under the direction of Xuejuan Feng, is a not-for-profit, performing dance troupe dedicated to Chinese folk dance and education. It brings together dancers and dance enthusiasts of varying ages, backgrounds, and dance experiences, with a common interest in Chinese folk and classical dance. Originally started as only a folk dance class, the Xuejuan Dance Ensem
ble grew so rapidly in membership and popularity over the course of two years, under Xuejuan’s dedicated and diligent instruction, that many Chinese community organizations in the Metropolitan DC area began enquiring into their performance availability. In 2011, with a repertoire in Tibetan, Mongolian, Dai, Miao, Yang Ge, Fan, Ribbon, Uygur folk dance and Chinese Classical dance, the Xuejuan Dance Ensemble made one of its first forays into public performance by auditioning for the 9th Annual World Dance Showcase of DC. Both the audition and later performance were a success and today, the group continues to look for more opportunities to perform while still maintaining regular class sessions in non-performance related topics. In recent months, the Xuejuan Performance Ensemble has become more active on the local stage, participating in cultural festivals such as the Chinese New Year Gala and other local cultural celebrations. All proceeds from performances and awards go toward more studio space rental and future costumes.
