Be lighter.
You might be thinking this means, losing weight. We hear that a lot in our society. Everywhere we return from print ads to movies to social media, we see a lot of targeted information toward being a lighter weight. This post isn’t about that.
There are a lot of ways we can help our life feel and be lighter that don’t have anything to do with weight loss.
We can lighten our load by reducing stress. Stress is inevitable, we all experience some kind of stress in daily life. We aren’t going to eliminate stress. But we can take control of how we deal with it. Yoga teaches us techniques like breathwork and meditation to help us regulate and restore. Paired with other mindful movement modalities like Pilates, aerial arts, and dance, we can create a lifestyle to further this self-healing.
We can lighten our environmental footprint by reducing waste. Establishing habits that help us limit resource consumption, lessen the landfill by repurposing, making greener choices. Sharing these goals with friends can help keep us accountable while encouraging others to join in.
We can lighten our personal space by gifting from our abundance. Host a trade party, donate items to a charity rummage sale, or connect with a group who deconstructs fabrics. Join a social media Free Stuff page and bless someone with our surplus.
We can lighten our feet and our seat. Take this invitation to experience stepping lightly around energy that feels aggressive or combative. May we find opportunity to use our seat at the table to sit lightly, ready to rise to the occasion to be the voice of calm reason. Let’s understand that even in rooms that feel heavy, we can remain light.
Join us this final week of Spring, the last of lengthening days, as we head toward a Summer Solstice practice on Saturday!
