Childhood is a precious time for any child, but when a

child’s days are limited on this earth their family and friends rally to make each moment count. Kade was born with Mitochondrial Disease that causes many complications including seizures and global developmental delays. Kade’s parents dreamed of the day he could play on a playground like every other child. Unfortunately, typical playgrounds are not designed for most children and adults with disabilities and/or life critical illnesses. Kade, at the young age of 3, was called to Heaven last year on October 14th, 2011. His passing fueled both Josh and Annette‘s determination to bring a universally accessible playground to his community. Josh reached out to Natalie Blakemore, founder of Unlimited Play who has successfully completed 4 playgrounds in the area, and together along with a very dedicated Mayor, Park Board, and Fire Department it is happening for the community of Jefferson County. The new Unlimited Play playground being built in Herculaneum will honorably be named Kade’s Playground.

Exciting News for Kade’s Playground!

The City of Herculaneum is thrilled to share exciting progress on Phase 3 of Kade’s Playground, and we're incredibly grateful to the organizations and individuals helping make this vision a reality!

A special thank you to Developmental Disability Advocates (DD Advocates) for their generous $55,000 contribution toward the Phase 3 Early Childhood Expansion. DD Advocates has been a proud supporter of Kade’s Playground since the very beginning, and this latest donation brings us one step closer to creating an even more inclusive space for families in our community.

Kade’s Playground was built to ensure that children and adults of all abilities can play, explore, and connect together. Already featuring accessible play equipment, interactive elements, a shaded pavilion, and secure perimeter fencing, the playground has become a destination for families throughout the region.

More opportunities for inclusive play and family connection

Kade’s Playground stands as a lasting tribute to Kade Bauman and a testament to what a community can accomplish when we work together. We can't wait to share more updates as Phase 3 moves forward!

DD Advocates has been a proud supporter of Kade's Playground in Herculaneum since its origin and recently presented the City of Herculaneum with a check for $55,000 for the Phase 3 early childhood expansion.

Kade's Playground is fully accessible to children and adults with disabilities, has many interactive features; a large, shaded pavilion; and perimeter fencing for added safety.

Phase 3 is designed for children under 5 and will have ample seating for caregivers to keep a watchful eye, plus shaded play areas.

Join Us for the StoryWalk Ribbon Cutting!

The City of Herculaneum is excited to officially celebrate the opening of our new StoryWalk at William C. Haggard City Park!

LOCATION:
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the Joachim Loop Trail Head, located at 776 Joachim Avenue, next to the dog park.

Following the ribbon cutting, Jefferson County Library will host a special Community Story Time for children and families, led by Children's Librarian Brenda Smith.

Come discover this fun new outdoor experience that combines reading, walking, and family time in nature. The StoryWalk is a wonderful way to encourage literacy while enjoying the beauty of our park system.

Tomorrow! The Herculaneum Fire Department 75th Anniversary Water Parade! 💦🚒

Get ready to celebrate 75 years of service with one of the most unique and exciting events Herculaneum has ever seen! Join us this Saturday, August 8th, for a community-wide Water Parade featuring fire trucks, specialty vehicles, local organizations, businesses, and lots of WATER FUN!

Saturday, August 8, 2026
Parade Begins at 2:00 PM
Starts: Taylor Early Childhood Center, 400 Joachim Avenue
Ends: William C. Haggard Park, 776 Joachim Avenue

Traffic & Parking Information

To accommodate parade participants and spectators, Joachim Avenue will be closed to regular traffic beginning at 1:00 PM and will be open only for event-related traffic.

Spectators are encouraged to park:
✅In the field along Joachim Avenue
✅ At Herculaneum High School
✅ Anywhere else along the parade route where parking is permitted

Please arrive early to find a spot and enjoy the festivities!

💦 Don't Forget Your Water Gear!

Bring your:
🔫 Water guns and water blasters
🪣 Buckets and water containers
😎 Towels and sunscreen

Fire department will will be available before the parade begins to fill water buckets and contrainers.

Please Note:
❌ No water balloons
❌ No alcohol
✅ Use only clean tap water
✅ Help us keep the event safe and family-friendly

Food Vendors will be available at the event as well.

This event is our way of celebrating not only the generations of firefighters who have served since 1951, but also the residents and community members whose support has made the Herculaneum Fire Department what it is today.

We invite everyone to come out, get soaked, enjoy the fun, and help us celebrate 75 years of service, tradition, and community pride!
