Message from Wh***ey Tales
We care about our customers, employees, and the reputation of Wh***ey Tales.
We are aware of concerns being shared on social media.
Thank you to the customers that have already brought concerns to management!
We encourage review of your receipt at the time of closing your check to ensure all purchases are accurate. We do not allow our staff to charge different prices other than what is documented on our POS terminal, this also make us aware of any POS discrepancies.
We ask that you DO NOT ask or give permission to an employee to sign your merchant copy of the receipt. Staff is instructed to notify of any suspicious findings for verification and management approval.
The purpose of a POS System is to protect the business, customers, and employees from any type of fraud. Also, to ensure accuracy of accounting, taxes, and cash handling of transactions which are timestamped and recorded.
A preauthorization is a temporary check that a card is valid and has enough available credit or funds. The bank places a hold for the authorized amount. The hold is not yet the final payment to the business.
For a bar tab, the card is preauthorized when the tab is opened.
The tab stays open while items are added.
When the tab is closed, the final amount is submitted as the payment. Customers may see different amounts, but they should total the amount of the receipt total including the authorized tip amount.
The temporary hold should clear as the bank updates the account.
A debit card can show the hold against the customer’s available balance, even though the final payment has not posted yet.
The bank may take additional time to remove the pending hold from the customer’s account, we do not control the timing, the issuer controls that matter.
If a customer sees a hold after paying, they can check whether it is marked pending or posted. For a pending hold that remains, they should contact their card issuer; if there are two completed charges, they should contact the business and their issuer with the dates and amounts.
Tip adjustments CAN NOT be adjusted after batch settlement. The only time a tip is adjusted is when the employee has made an error in entering the tip and or at closeout if noticed that there was an incorrect entry. Management approval is required for the adjustment and witnessed by the employee. This is why it is so important for accuracy.
We are reviewing transaction, tip-pool, and payroll records. Federal law permits tip pools among eligible employees, while generally prohibiting employers from keeping employees’ tips and managers or supervisors from receiving tips from a shared pool.
Employers also have recordkeeping and tax-reporting responsibilities for tips. As part of our internal review process, if a tip is confirmed to be inaccurate or unauthorized by the cardholder, we will trace its effect on that day’s pool, recalculate the shares for every employee included in that pool, and make appropriate payroll or reporting corrections. This takes time and careful review; it cannot always be resolved in a few minutes. Tip amounts can affect employees’ pay and tax records, so corrections must be based on complete, verified information.
Before and during the audit, employees who were employed at the time were informed that a review was underway and why records were being examined. Employees were issued a handbook and provided tools to follow our policies and procedures, including the process for reporting time discrepancies. Some discrepancies were not reported accurately or promptly, so additional records had to be reviewed to verify hours worked vs arrival and departure times, or not performing work duties while remaining on the time clock.
Later discrepencies required us to expand the review to additional records and prior months. That additional investigation has caused further interruptions to business operations and delays in completing the review.
There have also been reports of false accusations to customers, musicians, current and potential employees which have encouraged them to quit or not apply. This also affected the timing and accuracy for compliance.
We are encouraging anyone to report any occurrence you may have encountered at Wh***ey Tales regarding your visit in a written statement to [email protected]. Please obtain a copy for your records.
PLEASE NOTE: We welcome ALL! However, we will not tolerate any level of manipulation or disrespect to any member of our staff, customers, musicians, or venue! We DO NOT take threats lightly!
We have spoken with the appropriate authorities and are preserving records and gathering evidence for review. Other reviews and investigations are still in progress. We will not discuss those matters publicly while evidence is still being gathered and reviewed.
We are documenting threatening communications and will report threats or other conduct that may be unlawful. We are also preserving statements we believe may be false, threatening and harmful and referring them for appropriate legal review. We will not publicly identify individuals or make legal conclusions while that review is ongoing.
We ask everyone to avoid speculation while reviews are underway. We are committed to examining concerns carefully and treating customers and employees, as we expect the same in return. Thank you to those who have brought information directly to management and given us the opportunity to review and respond responsibly.
Business Owners are HUMANS too!
We are working countless hours to ensure these matters are resolved, all while balancing the needs of family, family health concerns and milestones.
Our goal is to focus on giving our dedicated employees the opportunities they deserve and creating our vision of growth for our customers, musicians, artists, and entertainers.
If you are not involved in any matter, we ask that you keep your opinions and judgements in your Sunday purse until anyone is proven guilty.
Thanks to all who have witnessed and acknowledged the dedication and efforts we have put in to make this place a home for all!
