Last night, I had the privilege of DJing a wedding. We got through all the traditional wedding stuff, and then it was time to do what we came to do…
GET THAT DANCE FLOOR MOVIN’! 🔥
I started dropping some of the usual bangers, and we had a good portion of the crowd out there having a good time. But as I looked around the room, I noticed something.
The Spanish-speaking folks at the wedding weren't really getting up and getting involved.
And honestly? I had to check myself.
As the DJ, it's my job to read the room and make sure EVERYBODY feels like the music is speaking to them. I realized I had been playing what I knew would get some people moving, but I hadn't made enough space for everybody else's flavor.
So I walked over to their table, handed them my phone, and said, “Put me on. What y’all wanna hear?”
They started putting songs in my phone, and I took those requests right back to the booth and worked them into the set.
Man…
When those songs started coming through those speakers, everything changed. 💥
They got up.
They started dancing.
The energy started shifting.
And then came the part that really hit me in the heart…
Before I knew it, it wasn't one group over here and another group over there.
WE WERE ALL TOGETHER.
We formed one huge Love Train, and people were grabbing hands, encouraging folks to get out of their seats, pulling people into the line, laughing, dancing, and just enjoying each other.
Different backgrounds.
Different skin tones.
Different languages.
But for that moment, none of that mattered.
Because we were all speaking the exact same language.
LOVE. ❤️
And standing behind that DJ booth, watching all of that unfold, it honestly hit me deep.
Sometimes this world will have us so focused on what makes us different that we forget how much we all have in common.
We all wanna laugh.
We all wanna feel included.
We all wanna celebrate.
We all wanna be loved.
And sometimes…all it takes is the right song to remind us.
Last night reminded me why I love doing what I do.
I don't just play music.
I get to be part of moments where people put their differences to the side, come together, and create memories they'll carry with them long after the music stops.
And that's the beautiful thing about this thing called MUSIC.
Music don't care what you look like.
Music don't care where you came from.
Music will meet you right where you are…
…and if you let it, it'll bring all of us together.
Much love to everybody who shared that dance floor last night. Y'all truly reminded me that love is still out here. ❤️
Much Love,
DJ Wink 🎧
P.S. We went so hard on that dance floor last night that I'm pretty sure half of us need an Epsom salt bath today! 😂😂
