Every painting has a story.

Susan Paradis is currently working from a photograph taken by her friend Richard Edelen, a National Geographic photographer whose images inspired her for many years. Whenever she found a photograph she connected with, she would ask permission to paint from it, and he was always happy to share his work.

This was the last photograph she asked permission to use before Richard passed away unexpectedly.

Sometimes a painting becomes more than an exercise in learning technique. It gives us a way to celebrate friendships, preserve memories, and connect with the people who have touched our lives. UPCOMING WORKSHOP - I’ll be teaching a one day painting workshop on Saturday, September 13, from 9:30am – 4:30pm here in Henderson, KY.

We’ll be working on this glowing orange still life together, a great study in texture, color, and light. To make things easier for beginners, I’ll provide a tracing option so you can get right into painting without worrying about drawing. I’ll also supply the canvas for everyone.

Cost:

$125 (bring your own supplies)

$150 (I’ll provide everything you need)

This workshop is open to all levels, whether you’re just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills. My goal is to give you hands on guidance and help you capture the glow and dramatic light of a backlit orange.

Before you ever touch a brush, I’ll do a small demo of your project showing exactly how I’d approach the first steps. We talk through composition, values, color mixing…everything.

Most students bring a photo on their iPad or phone, or I’ll set up a small simple still life. Then I’ll show you exactly how I’d begin your painting, so you’re not left guessing where to start.
You’ll see it happen before taking it on yourself.

It’s personal, focused instruction. No pressure. Just painting, learning, and making progress.
