Sometimes the best part comes before the song. 🎶

You know Up Down by Morgan Wallen.

But at Songfest, you get to hear it from one of the guys who actually wrote it, CJ Solar, and hear the story behind the song before the first note is ever played.

That’s what makes a songwriter round different.

The stories. The laughs. The moments you won’t hear on the radio.

And then… they play the song. 💚

That’s Songfest.

FOR A FEW NIGHTS EACH SUMMER, HENDERSON BECOMES A SONGWRITER TOWN. 💚

Writers make their way to our little corner of Kentucky.
Local spaces turn into listening rooms.
Chairs get pulled in close.
And suddenly, you’re sitting just a few feet away from the people behind some pretty incredible songs.

That’s always been part of the magic of Songfest.

No big stage separating the songwriter from the audience. Just the songwriter, the story behind the song, and a room full of people listening. 🎶

There’s nothing quite like Songfest in Henderson. 💚

YOU KNOW THE SONG. BUT DO YOU
KNOW THE SONGWRITER? 🎶

“Troubadour” — George Strait

You know the song. You know the voice.
But sitting right here in Henderson is one of the people who helped write it.

✍️ Written by Leslie Satcher & Monty Holmes

Leslie has shared her songs and the stories behind them with us at Songfest — including one that’s become a George Strait classic.

That’s the magic of Songfest.
You don’t just hear the songs you know and love.
You hear them from the people who wrote them. 💚

Every song has a story. So does Songfest. 💚

Before Songfest became the festival we know today, there was a friendship, a love of music and an idea.

Henderson native and hit songwriter Kerry Kurt Phillips was a good friend of Sandy Lee Watkins. Kerry, and a small group of friends, helped take an idea rooted in that friendship and love of songwriting and turn it into what would become the Sandy Lee Watkins Songwriters Festival.

The festival began in 2010, and this was our original logo from those early days. 🎶

Sixteen years later, the venues may look different and Songfest has grown — but what happens in the room is still remarkably simple:

Songwriters. Their songs. Their stories. And people gathered around to listen.

That’s where our story began. 💚

There’s just something about a songwriter, a room full of people, and the story behind a song. 💚

Already missing nights like this.

To every songwriter who shared your music and your stories with us this year… thank you. 💚

Whether you were returning to Songfest or joining us for the first time, thank you for spending part of your summer in Henderson and for giving our community an unforgettable week of music.

Every one of you is represented here because every one of you helped make Songfest 2026 something truly special.

Thank you for every song, every story, every laugh, every conversation, and every moment you shared with us. You reminded us that the stories behind the songs are just as meaningful as the songs themselves.

We hope you’ll always know there’s a place for you in Henderson, Kentucky. Until we meet again… thank you for being part of the Songfest family. 💚🎶

Just a few days ago, these stages were filled with songs, stories, laughter, and standing ovations. Today, they’re quiet—but our hearts are anything but.

Thank you to every songwriter who traveled to Henderson to share your music and your stories. Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, board members, venues, photographers, sound crew, vendors, and community partners who made this festival possible.

Most of all, thank you to every person who attended a show, bought a ticket, shared a post, or simply told a friend to come. You are the reason this festival continues to grow.

For four days, we celebrated the people behind the music while honoring the legacy of Sandy Lee Watkins. We couldn’t have done it without this incredible community.

Until next year 🎶
