What does it mean to leave everything behind—and wait for a future that may never arrive? Set in New York, Gazelle follows Yakup, a Turkish music teacher forced to seek asylum in the United States. More than a story about asylum, Gazelle is a moving exploration of identity, belonging, resilience, and hope. Following the screening, join Hafza Girdap , Hofstra University and co-director Nadir Sarıbacak and Ayhan Hulagu, in conversation with about the film, their own experiences as displaced artists, and the universal questions of migration, exile, and finding home.

Celebrates Central American Filmmakers

The New York Central American Film Festival International (CAFFEIN) will celebrate its second year of programming at Hofstra University’s Guthart Cultural Center Theater on Thursday, October 8, 4:20-9 p.m.

Presented by the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and the Hofstra Cultural Center, NY CAFFEIN2 seeks to create a safe, creative, and dignified space to honor the artistry of Central American filmmakers.

Santiago Slabodsky Delivers Keynote Address in Japan

Dr. Santiago Slabodsky, professor of religion, the Florence and Robert Kaufman Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies and director of the Jewish Studies Program at Hofstra University, delivered the keynote address at the Levinas Society’s ninth annual conference on September 27 at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan.

Klinkowstein Presents Work at Germany’s Ravensburg University

Professor Tom Klinkowstein, who teaches new media art and design in the Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History, saw the recent installation of his work Not All Whens Are Time at Ravensburg University in Germany. He also presented a keynote address for graduating media design students.

A summer externship gave Ashley Jailall ’27 more than an opportunity to strengthen her clinical skills.

The nursing student was selected for a summer nursing externship at Glen Cove Hospital with support and guidance from faculty at the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.

The externship allowed Jailall to put her Hofstra nursing coursework and clinical training into practice.
