Bad news folks!... I wanted to give everyone an update on the situation with the haunt.
Unfortunately, we've discovered that the property lines were not where we originally believed they were. After having new surveys completed and the lines corrected, it turns out that nearly the entire haunt—including the large black barn—is actually located on the neighboring property. The only exception is part of the exit trail.
The neighbors have been very understanding and have said they don't mind us using the woods. However, from an insurance and liability standpoint, I can't risk having someone get injured on property that doesn't belong to us and potentially facing a lawsuit.
As a result, we'll have to dismantle the current haunt, relocate it, and essentially rebuild from the ground up. I've already spent roughly $6,500 dealing with surveys, legal adjustments, and property line issues just to save the 20x70 barn. Unfortunately, everything else will be a loss.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This isn't the outcome I was hoping for, but I wanted everyone to know what's happening and why.
The silver lining is that this gives me this summer and next summer to build an entirely new haunt from the ground up. I don't want to rush the process and end up cutting corners. Right now, we're only using about one-third of our property's true potential, and even with that limitation we're already the third-largest haunted trail attraction in the state. Once we redesign and build on the land we actually have available, the new haunt could end up being much larger, more immersive, and better than anything we've built before.
