Retro Gamers – We Need to Talk About Fakes! The retro scene is booming, and that’s awesome… but it’s also bringing more sophisticated counterfeits than ever before. At Legit Retro, we check every single game we sell for authenticity — using proper testing equipment, close visual inspection, and years of experience. We pull anything questionable out of circulation rather than risk passing it on. But even with that level of care, it’s getting harder. Some of these repros and “enhanced” carts are now so good that even experienced collectors can get fooled at first glance. The quality of labels, shells, chips, and even the way they play has jumped up massively.That’s why the whole community has to stay diligent:Always do proper testing (not just “it boots”)
Check for the little tells on labels, screws, board markings, and even the smell
Buy from trusted sources when possible
And if something feels off, don’t pass it on hoping it’s fine.
