Congrats John! So deserving!

🎉Congratulations to John Murdy, this month's Spirit of Helena Award winner!

From John's nomination: "Always the first to volunteer at any downtown event, John intentionally chooses the tasks no one else desires. He has official jobs: swamper for Ten Mile Creek Brewery and Hawthorn, empties trash for the BID, and cleans the theater after shows at the Myrna Loy. Beyond those, he quietly handles what no one assigned him: sorting recyclables from downtown trash, weeding neglected corners, cleaning dog waste from sidewalks and parks, tending to Reeder’s Alley and a hundred other small but mighty tasks that keep Helena running smoothly."

Meet the cast bringing our inaugural Spotlight Series to life with A Man of No Importance as a stage reading. An unmissable script by Terrence McNally, and score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (who also wrote Ragtime and Lucky Stiff).

Set in 1960s Dublin, this intimate, beautifully woven musical follows Alfie Byrne, a bus conductor who finds belonging through the amateur theatre company he creates with his passengers. But when he dares to stage an Oscar Wilde play, secrets, shame, love, and the power of community collide. At its center is a story about what happens when theatre gives us the courage to be exactly who we are.

The Spotlight Series is about brining new to GST stories, fresh discoveries, and a chance to experience a script in a way you may never have seen before.

Congrats to the entire cast and creative team of SHREK THE MUSICAL. Over the past few weeks, this cast, crew, volunteers, and creative team have reminded us why live theatre is so magical. They’ve made us laugh until our sides hurt, brought us to tears, and filled our theatre with joy, heart, and more than a little fairy tale chaos.

To every person who bought a ticket, applauded from the audience, shared a post, volunteered their time, or cheered these incredible artists on, thank you. You helped make this production something truly special.

And to our company: thank you for pouring your hearts into every rehearsal, every quick change, every note, every laugh, and every performance. You created a world where everyone belonged, just as they are.

If you joined us throughout the run, get ready to say goodbye to Duloc, the dragon, the fairy tale creatures, and our favorite grumpy ogre one last time. Let’s make this final performance one to remember.
