Jazz at the Tap ended on Sunday, August 21st, 2022 in its 20th year. We thank Paul Combs, founder of the series and its band, the Pocket Big Band, all the musicians who have played our stage, the people who have listened to them, and the owners and staff of our two venues: The Chit Chat Lounge (2002 to 2018) and the Tap Brewpub (2018 to 2022). As with our previous FB page (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100065607184964&paipv=1&_rdr) this page will continue as a testament to what the series accomplished. We are looking to find a new home for the series, and any news will appear here. Thanks for the memories!

Dear Friends of Jazz at the Tap: It is with feelings of sadness that I must announce that this Sunday, August 21st 2022, will be the LAST SUNDAY of Jazz at the Tap. The Tap informed us of their decision a few days ago, but we have held off making it public until all the musicians booked have been informed. We will begin looking for a new venue and this site is where any news will appear. We are very grateful to the Tap's owner, John Fahimian, the management, and the staff of the Tap for their welcome and support over the last five years. The series is now in its 20th year. Let us hope that it may yet continue. On a personal note: this series has truly been a community (a hideously over- and mis-used word): the musicians, the listeners, and the staff have allowed me to form many wonderful friends over almost 20 years. I shall miss you all! And I hope we may yet meet again. Sincerely, Kevin McDermott ("Dizzy Zakat")

Something NEW this week: SAXOPHONE COLOSSUS (Artie Bakopolus, alto sax; Russ Hoffman, keys; Gary Johnson, drums; Keala Kaumeheiwa, bass; Dave Schumacher, bari sax) will be in the house, giving us a night of Jazz Standards, with a heavy emphasis on the charts of Charlie Parker...because it's Bird's birthday! Hope to see you there: Sunday August 21st, 6 to 9PM.

The "house band" is back in the house THIS SUNDAY — there's always something new-to-you from that big, thick, book...as well as old favorites you are likely to hear from time to time. What's not to like? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING — you'll always hear something you want to hear again with the PBB! Here they are: Jody Bregler, drums; Bill Cable, trumpet; Jim Cameron, bari; Rob Cary, trumpet; John Doherty, bass; John Franzosa, tenor; Mike Jacobs, alto; Mark Taddonio, trombone; and Gian Wiegner, guitar. Should you come for the great JAZZ, the great ALES, or the great FOOD? WHY CHOOSE — COME FOR ALL OF 'EM. Never a cover — Always great Jazz! 6:00 to 9:00 Sunday, August 7th.

Well: this week: change partners and dance. Do to unforeseen circumstances 2 Slick is unable to perform. But — fortunately — Wayne Branco was scheduled to play at the end of August with another of his groups, the Bay State Jazz Quintet; so we’re just swapping the groups and will hear 2 Slick then, and the Quintet this Sunday. The group is composed entirely of “Old Friends” (John Arcaro, keys; Stephan Arsenault, bass; Mark Branco, drums; Wayne Branco, trombone and Jim Repa, saxes & flute) but we’ve never had the opportunity to hear them all play together before. You can expect a great night of jazz featuring standards from the Great American Songbook, Latin jazz, and post-bebop tunes by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane. Sunday July 31st, 6 to 9 PM. As always: Never a Cover — Always Great Jazz!
