Dolly gave me a lot of inspiration over the years, but perhaps the biggest lesson was simply this: be unapologetically yourself, and go after the life you want.

I originally created this modern ink and watercolor illustration in 2022, featuring Dolly’s unmistakable hair and smile alongside one of my favorite quotes of hers:

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

After sharing the artwork earlier this week in honor of Dolly’s passing on August 25, I received so much interest in having this image on something you could actually keep and wear that I decided to make it available as Sunlit Haze Creative merchandise. 🩷

This piece feels especially fitting now. Dolly spent her life paving her own road, staying true to herself, and building something entirely her own. She reminded so many of us that you don’t have to wait for permission to dream bigger.

One of the questions I get asked most often is: “What do you need from us at the venue?”

Honestly? Just tell me where you want me to set up! 🎨

I bring pretty much everything I need to create your painting on-site. Occasionally I’ll use power if it’s available, but I recently upgraded to a rechargeable light, which means I’m now even more portable!

I’ve painted outside, inside, near the bar, next to the dessert table, tucked into a corner, and everywhere in between. You name it, I can probably paint there. 😂

I typically arrive a couple of hours before the ceremony so I can get set up and work quietly in the background - and maybe catch up on a podcast - while you’re getting ready and as your guests arrive. After painting in the setting at your venue, I’ll snap a photo of your preferred moment (or work with your photographer to get the perfect reference shot 📸) and turn it into a one-of-a-kind work of art right before your eyes.

So you don’t have to worry about adding another complicated vendor setup to your list. Just give me a spot, and I’ll take care of the rest. 🤍✅

Meet Molly Bear. 🐾

Molly is a rescue pup who was found on Molly Barr Road in Oxford, Mississippi, which is exactly how she got her name. Like many great nicknames, it eventually became “Molly Bear.”

When her human sent me several reference photos to choose from, one immediately stood out. It captured Molly doing what she loves most: keeping a close eye on the neighborhood and barking at anyone who dares to walk past her window. It wasn’t the most “perfect” portrait pose, but it was the most Molly. That’s the kind of reference photo I love because the best portraits don’t just look like our pets. They feel like them.

One of my favorite parts of working in watercolor is building each painting through layers of warm and cool colors and complementary hues. Those transparent washes create depth, movement, and life that simply can’t be achieved in a single layer. Watching a personality emerge one brushstroke at a time is one of the reasons I love this medium so much.
