Applications for Open Space 2026 are open. If you’re a rising senior looking to level up your art skills, this is the place to be.

Spend a week this June living on campus and working in our Jackson Dinsdale Art Center with our Hastings College Department of Visual Arts. You’ll get hands-on experience in: ✨ Glassblowing ✨ Ceramics ✨ Sculpture ✨ Painting & Printmaking

The best part? Rising seniors who attend can be selected for the Jackson Scholars Program—an all-expenses-paid, full-ride scholarship to major in art at Hastings College!

Rising juniors may apply, but preference is given to rising seniors.

It's day three of Open Space and students are on their second of three rotations of glassblowing, ceramics and printmaking. We love seeing their creations come to life throughout the day!

Today our Open Space students focused on painting, creating their own work and also using their leftover paint on a collaborative piece. They learned how to create different types of brush strokes and how to properly mix colors together this morning. This afternoon, they focused on creating their individual pieces.

The first night of Open Space is all about getting to know each other and having fun! Before heading to their dorms, participants made s'mores! We can't wait to see the art they create throughout the week.

Hello everyone! We appreciate your patience as we worked to build 2025 Open Space. This year we are focusing on Visual Arts and invite high school juniors to apply! We'll have five studios for students to experience — and may select up to eight Jackson Scholars from Open Space participants! Follow the link for details!
