Fresh off of opening for Tyler Childers when he makes his way to us and hailing from the foothills of Appalachia, Scott T Smith’s sound was shaped in the mountains of West Virginia, where Saturday mornings filled with classic doo-wop and American standards left him with a style that feels timeless and deeply rooted. Backing him is The Hurricanes, a lineup of accomplished multi-instrumentalists bringing decades of touring, songwriting, and recording experience to the stage.
On drums is Dani Markam, a Louisville-native percussionist known for her genre-crossing style and electrifying performances alongside artists like Childish Gambino and Tune-Yards. Aaron Bibelhauser adds rich storytelling and instrumental depth as an award-winning songwriter whose credits include Dale Ann Bradley, Balsam Range, and Del McCoury — including “Blue Collar Dreams,” the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2017 Song of the Year. Fiddler and multi-instrumentalist Ellie Ruth, a University of Louisville-trained musician, blends bluegrass and old-time traditions with classical technique, having performed with Ben Sollee, Ian Noe, Hot Brown Smackdown, and more. Rounding out the group is Nate Miner, a composer, producer, and touring multi-instrumentalist whose work spans independent music, film scoring, and immersive sound design — from his roots in the band Underwater Tiger to founding Miner Sounds and touring internationally with Oliver Hazard at festivals like Newport Folk Festival and Austin City Limits.
Together, Scott T Smith and the Hurricanes blend classic roots with a modern edge, making music that’s honest, fun, and full of heart. You can see them LIVE at High Cotton on September 18, 2026 at 8pm. You do not want to miss this band and no better way to see them than up close and personal at High Cotton!
