Sergei Loznitsa’s rigorously controlled historical drama (🏆 Prix François Chalais, Cannes) plunges us into Stalin‑era Soviet bureaucracy, where justice becomes an abstract idea crushed by systems designed to erase it. Shot with Loznitsa’s trademark austerity, the film plays like a slow, suffocating procedural — chilling precisely because of its restraint.
MIROIRS No. 3
Christian Petzold’s quietly devastating new film (🎖 Special Jury Award, LEFFEST) moves in the opposite direction: intimate, elliptical, and emotionally unresolved. Starring Paula Beer, Petzold’s longtime collaborator, the film explores grief and projection through fractured identity and repetition — cinema as reflection, distortion, and echo.
Both films premiered at major international festivals and represent late‑career masterworks.
