Hartford, come spend the day with us at the Just Kin Arts Festival this Saturday, August 29!

A full day celebrating q***r diasporic artists, music, dance, resistance, and community—all throughout Downtown Hartford.

Here’s what’s happening:

• 12–4 PM | Hartford Public Library
Opening ceremony, the “Q***r Ancestral Futures Beyond Salsa” panel, a banana leaf workshop with Lindaluz Carrillo, a market, zine-making, board games, sweet treats, and an interactive Q***r Ancestor Altar curated by Helena’s Casita.

• 5–7 PM | Butler McCook House & Garden
An outdoor concert with Las Mariquitas, celebrating the legacy of salsa as liberation music and creating space for q***r and trans voices on the dance floor.

• 9 PM–1 AM | Semilla Cafe + Studio
The official afterparty with music by Hook Gawdess, flash tattoos by Muva Mya Ink, mocktails, coquito, wine, games, and an old-fashioned perreo.

And I’ll be at the library making paper marigold flowers and installing “Our Ancestors, Our Pride,” a q***r ancestor altar that will only be on view for ONE DAY.

The festival is FREE with a $20 suggested donation. RSVPs are encouraged, and walk-ins are welcome, but space is limited for some activities.

Come make something. Come dance. Come learn. Come support q***r diasporic artists and local culture.
Because our stories deserve to be celebrated, remembered, and carried forward.

Or more like we’ll see craft or crash out again next year because Helena’s Casita ain’t going anywhere!

We just don’t have capacity to keep hosting these monthly gatherings on top of everything else we have to do in preparation for the annual day of dead celebration.

AND, sadly, Helena - Latina Creator had to get a full-time job. Times are really rough out here lol — no but seriously when are we gonna see cheaper prices for food or gas!?!?

Anyway, back to this paper mache!

Our crowdfunding campaign for the 4th Annual Día de Mu***os Celebration in Downtown Hartford is live!

This year, we’re raising $6,000 through Patronicity—and thanks to Sustainable CT, every dollar will be matched once we reach our goal.

But there’s one more important piece: we need at least 60 individual donors to show that our community believes in this celebration. That means even a $1 donation makes a difference.
