Hi Tap friends and fam!!

We want to let you know about upcoming “Tappenings” with the CTC!

Drop in classes are starting up again at The Dance Collective at 1800 Park Street, Hartford!

I’ll be teaching Musical Theater Tap (all levels) every 2nd Saturday of the month starting on 9/12 from 10-11am! The direct link for our September class will be in the comments.

Since it’s been a slow roll for tap at HDC, if this class is a success they’re open to adding more (as in weekly or another style/level 😁). If you know someone else who might be interested please share the info or tag them below so we can bring more tap to the community!

Open company rehearsals/class/auditions follow class from 11am - 1pm and are $25 for drop-in non-company members (one company class/rehearsal/audition is required for consideration and acceptance). Just let us know you're coming since there's no booking link.

We’re always looking for dancers for upcoming performances. There may be an opportunity in November (more info to come), and we are starting a new piece in September. All are welcome to learn it regardless if you join us for the next performance, we’ll use it multiple times throughout the next season(s). This is an advanced/pro level piece and can be modified to suit your level at open rehearsals.

Rehearsals for performances are typically weekly(ish) for 4-8 weeks before a show and run 2-3 hours each. To perform you are required to attend the last rehearsal. Occasionally we get called last minute and/or only have one rehearsal opportunity, however videos are provided and there’s a text chain for updates and questions. Performing is always optional.

Lastly, if we haven’t met or you’d like to see us perform or take class, on August 15th the CTC will be at the Inaugural Farmington Valley Dance Festival located at 99 Thompson Road in Avon!

Musical Theater Tap (all levels) will be from 11-12, and The Company will be performing “Chameleon” at the show at 6pm. Classes and the performance that day are completely free, so come hang with us!

Thanks for supporting Tap dance and helping to keep it alive! Remember Gene Medler’s advice, “We don’t dance to impress, we dance to express”.

Can’t wait to boogie with you on the dance floor!

Rhythmically,

Katie Cavenagh
Founder/Artistic Director of The CTC

Regardless of what’s going on in the world, as artists, we will still create.

We create for the sake of creating, and for the unique journey through the process.

We create because there needs to be an outlet for everything that can’t (or won’t) be said.

We create to bring a different perspective to the eyes of observers.

Each time we step on stage, we create a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will NEVER be replicated. The creation lives in that moment, and that moment alone. Even if you watch a recording, you don’t get the same experience.

This, my friends, is why the Arts are so valuable. They give you the opportunity to be fully present. To take something in, to be a part of something that only lives in that fleeting moment, never to be experienced the same way ever again.

Next performance the people will be different. The day will be different. The energy will be different. The moods of the cast and crew will be different. And therefore, our creation will be different.

We may be performing the same choreography, but we’re creating something for everyone in that room that connects us for those moments.

That’s what I love so much about what we do. It never gets old. Each and every creation serves its purpose, even the ones nobody but you experiences.

Please let yourself continue to create, if only just for yourself. Too often we judge ourselves instead of simply trusting and enjoying the process. Do it for the sake of doing it, and because it makes you happy.

Join us at the Hartford Dance Festival on June 6th at Bushnell Park to experience our creation “Chameleon”, a tribute to Gregory Hines and the Legacy of the Tap Legends.

If you’re interested in taking class, let us know! Tap will be returning to the The Dance Collective in the fall!!! Get on the list so you can be the first to know what classes will be offered!

And for now, please enjoy the company rehearsing some double time 🥁🎼😆
