Fern Fest FIVE. ✨🌿

It’s hard to put this week into words.

We sang beneath the full moon.

We lingered around the community fire, making s’mores and spending hours in camp chairs with new friends.

We danced until 2 a.m.

We tried on new expressions of ourselves.

We remembered why spaces like Fern are sacred — and why they deserve to be celebrated, protected, and nurtured.

There were workshops that stretched our hearts and minds, sapphic slumber parties, the inaugural Kings of Fern drag king show, and the beautiful growing of chosen families.

Whether you arrived in glitter, leather, lace, or flannel, we hope your week in our little q***r village in the Michigan woods was exactly what your spirit needed in this moment.

Thank you to every artist, volunteer, ASL interpreter, workshop leader, vendor, sponsor, crew member, and camper who poured your heart into making this week what it was.

Five years in, our roots are running even deeper…and we’re just getting started!

🌿 KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! 🌿 Part Two: Accessibility & Helpful Info!

We believe festivals should be welcoming, accessible, and joyful for as many people as possible. Here’s what you can expect at Fern!

♿️ PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY: The main stage, vendors, community kitchen, dining tent, and community tent are all centrally located. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle slopes, featuring firm packed dirt roads and low-cut grass fields.

🏕️ ACCESSIBLE CAMPING: We have a designated accessible camping area with accessible portable restrooms nearby.

🤟 ASL INTERPRETERS: A team of Deaf and hearing ASL interpreters will interpret all main stage performances and, upon request, workshops. Message boards and signage are placed throughout the festival.

🚐 SHUTTLES AVAILABLE: Our shuttle runs morning, day, and night with stops around the festival grounds. The shuttle is reserved for campers with accessibility needs so please walk if you’re able.

🩺 MEDICAL SUPPORT: Fern always has a medical professional in attendance. A First Aid station is centrally located near the General Store. Medications that require refrigeration may be stored in the Community Kitchen. Medical devices can be charged at the charging station next to the main stage.

📵 CELL SERVICE & WIFI: Cell service is limited, and Wi-Fi is minimal. Enjoy the rare gift of being unplugged!

🌿 KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! 🌿 Part One: Community Spaces

Fern Fest isn’t just a music festival — it’s a co-created space rooted in care, intention, and connection. Each corner of Fern is designed with our community in mind and shaped by the people who gather every year. These community spaces are where the magic happens!

Here’s a guide to the places that help make Fern feel like home!

💜The BIPOC Sanctuary: a healing space exclusively for BIPOC attendees, crew, and performers. A place to rest, restore, connect, and build community.

✊The Liberation Lounge: a co-created space dedicated to collective liberation, exploring our intersecting privileges and marginalizations, and learning how to better care for one another. It is also a casual place to simply hang out, read, grab a snack, and access resources. The Lounge welcomes all ages and is alcohol free during the day and adults only (21+) after 9pm (chem OK).

🪩The Zone: a late-night vibe space where the party continues long after night stage ends!

🧶The Community Activity Tent: games, crafts, meetups, workshops, and connection. Check the “Meet-Ups & Connections” board or post your own!

🥤Fern General Store: a space to grab official merch, artist goods, snacks, cold drinks, camping supplies and, most importantly, ice!

🛍️Vendor Market: featuring handmade goods, services, and offerings from our community of artists and makers!

☕️Community Kitchen + Dining Tent: make your own meals in the shared kitchen (with FREE morning coffee!) and dine with your newest besties!

🌅Morning Yoga + Cello Baths: ease into your day with yoga and/or a cello sound bath. Just meet at the stage and zen out.

🔥Community Fire Pit: Smores, singalongs, hot dogs, community - oh my! Every night we light a campfire in the community fire pit and hang out under the Michigan stars!

🏳️‍⚧️Lavender Lounge: our harm reduction hub and trans-affirming, sex-positive resource space.

🤫Quiet Camping: not the kind to be rowdy all night? No worries! We have designated camping areas for folks who prefer to rest and recharge.
