There's been so much happening lately I realized I hadn't posted my finished painting which I'm calling "The Journey Begins." I finished it just in time for Mother's Day weekend and the opening of my DubHub show. This is my largest piece yet.

I've still been looking at it, wondering if I want to add anything to the background, but I like a simple background. I love the patterns in the skin, and the tender way the mother drapes her tail over her sweet little one's head.

Current painting under way... Guess what we heard recently?? I'm falling in love with soft backgrounds and comforting colors. I have a show coming up at the DubHub in May! Getting some pieces finished up for this show 🤗

4 hours of work in 90 seconds, and that doesn't count the part I started the other day.

Had to change out of morning chores clothes because it got so hot! And love the smooches from Pax towards the end when he said, can we please go out in this beautiful sunshine?!

Now to be patient while it dries before starting the painting.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about creativity during times of communal distress.

As artists, the work we do sits very close to humanity—to emotion, memory, empathy, and shared experience. Because of that closeness, the weight of what’s happening around us can either deepen our creative well or leave us feeling emotionally depleted. Sometimes it fuels the work. Other times, it creates a kind of quiet paralysis—a creative block that comes not from lack of ideas, but from lack of energy and focus.

Right now, even as I think through new projects, I’m finding it difficult to reach into the momentum it takes just to begin. And I know I can’t be the only one feeling this way.

I’m sharing this in case you are too—whether you’re an artist or not. If things feel heavy, if forward motion feels slow, you’re not alone. I’m hoping that naming this out loud is a small first step toward moving through it—for me, and maybe for someone else reading this too.

My biggest canvas yet!

Ignoring the fact that my doggo looks a bit guilty in this pic, like maybe he ate cat poo or stole a kids favorite stuffy and chewed the tail off again 🤣

But seriously, I have an exciting project I'm starting and I can't wait for you all to see it!

For art and horse lovers! Here is my most recent finished project. I wanted to stretch myself and play around more with texture (one of my favorite things on a canvas!). This painting is available.
