In anticipation of this weekend's snow forecast, artists in Kindergarten and 1st grade learned about patterns, radial symmetry and brush control while painting snowflakes. We also learned about Snowflake Bentley, a photographer born in 1865 who took photos of snowflakes with a camera that cost more than 10 cows!

4th and 5th grades studied well known artists throughout the school year. In February, we learned about John Dine.

The scripture verse for the month was "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." — Matthew 22:37-39

Students experimented with texture, layers, contrast and hue while creating this amazing work.

John 15:12 "My command is this, love each other as I have loved you ...."

February is a wonderful time of year to experiment with tempera paint! Kindergarten and first grade students were invited to see how many shades of pink they could create when they mixed red and white paint.

This is an activity that incorporates fine motor skills, self control, decision making, cause & effect, exploration and creativity.

Students discussed what it means to "love each other" as Christ loves us while they created the first layer of a mixed media project we will work on throughout the month.

The Set Design/Theatre Art class has been working with cardboard, foam and paper mache to create a lightweight, realistic fireplace and chimney for Tevye's house. It's messy work, but it's really exciting when it starts to take shape.

Have you purchased tickets to see the CCS students perform "Fiddler on the Roof"? They sell out quickly!
