NEW PAINTING ✨ For all the Capricorns out there ...
'Capricorn The Star-Chaser' is on display in the exhibition "Continuance - Women in Process" with Volition art at Dacia Gallery in NYC until April 30th. This painting is FOR SALE whilst in the gallery and also after the exhibition ends, it will be then in my Etsy Shop for purchase. - (24"x36" Oil on Canvas - Framed) ❤
Capricorns are born between December 22nd – Jan 19th. They are represented by the Seagoat, symbolizing the ability to reach the heights of land and the depths of the sea. Ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline, responsibility and structure, Capricorns carry an unmistakable sense of quiet strength. Often seeming composed and reserved at first glance, but beneath that calm exterior is a deeply driven, thoughtful, and resilient soul.
At their best, they are incredibly disciplined, hardworking and reliable. They have the ability to be intensely committed —whether a career goal, a relationship, or a personal ambition. Driven and tenacious with their goals, yet still very practical and grounded, Capricorns love structure and organized solid foundations. Because of this they can be overly cautious and pragmatic, yet their well thought out plans can take them to great heights in all areas of their lives.
Like other earth signs, Capricorns are sincerely loyal and dependable. They excel in financial and career success and take their work, goals and personal relationships very seriously. Extremely self-reliant and even self-protective at times, they have a quiet confidence, poise and refined elegance about them. However, their high standards for themselves and others can sometimes make them appear critical, cold and unforgiving and they need to watch their propensity to be workaholics, and sometimes controlling of their own lives and others.
Capricorns can struggle to relax and let go of the need to be productive. There’s also a tendency to carry burdens alone believing they must be strong and independent rather than vulnerable and in need of help.
In essence, Capricorns are the zodiacs star-chaser, dedicated to reaching heights with calculated and deliberate steps. They know that reaching the stars requires discipline and endurance as much as dreaming, and when they finally reach their star, they quietly claim it and start looking for the next one © Jo Jayson 2026

Pisces The Dreamer - 24"x36" oil and gold leaf on canvas
🐟
Pisces, Latin for ‘fishes’, with dates February 18th/19th – March 20th/21st – is the twelfth and last sign of the zodiac, completing the wheel of the astrological year. Ruled by Neptune, they are a mutable sign, which means they conclude a season, and with flexibility allow ease into the next one. Their symbol is the two fish, following each other’s tail, with origins back to ancient Greek mythology and various stories of Aphrodite.

Pisces is a water sign together with Cancer and Scorpio, all of which are deeply emotional, intuitive and sensitive. Pisces however uses their emotional sensitivities to access their incredible creative and colorful imagination. Pisces are the creators and artists of the zodiac and their creativity is born from their ability to day-dream and access their vast imaginative dream-worlds. They make wonderful poets and artists and their perspectives on life are often idealistic and magical. They are gentle souls and make loyal and honest friends and companions.

Because they are a mutable sign, they are adaptable and receptive, and can relate to many types of people and situations. They are deeply compassionate and empathetic, openminded and unselfish in their wanting the best for everyone. Their perspective is wide and forward thinking, with idealistic and lofty view points and goals.

Sometimes Pisces can confuse reality with fantasy, become too dreamy and unrealistic, and have the capacity to become escapists and addicts. Their beautiful ability to dream in many dimensions, sometimes can make them have no boundaries with relationships and become people pleasers because of their wanting everyone to be happy. Their emotional depths if not mastered, can become too dramatic and intense for some, and within themselves, become melancholy or suffer from victimhood or depression. Pisces tend not to take criticism too well because of their deeply sensitive nature, making them easily hurt. Their dreaminess and fluidity can often make them ungrounded and unreliable.

Pisces love their solitude much like other water signs, but they love big, and care for others with intense passion and purpose. They are generous givers, and sometimes can give too much. They can be insecure for love, which can make them vulnerable to others who may take advantage of them, if they do not have this awareness. Romantic, intuitive and incredibly charming, these dreamers are beautiful and magical people who have a profound belief that anything is possible and that one’s imagination is as real and tangible as any reality. © Jo Jayson 2023. Happy Birthdays to all the Aquarians out there♒️🩵

Aquarius - Usher of the Light ~
Aquarius – from the latin Aquaril meaning “Water Carrier” and usually referred to as the Water Bearer – is the 11thsign of the zodiac, and is fixed in its nature. Quintessentially an Air Sign but often mistakenly thought to be a water sign, which adds to its already misunderstood and indefinable character. Ruled by the planet Uranus and Saturn, with dates January 20th– February 18th, this sign can comfortably call itself the odd one of the zodiac, the one that can’t quite fit in, hard to describe or define and just that little bit enchanting yet somewhat strange.
Aquarians are very much air signs, with most of their energy focused in the mind and on their thoughts. Their purpose is to be “the water bearers" for humanity, which in cosmic terms means those that serve and bring to the whole, that which is vital and of service to the collective. The water bearer is not literal but symbolic of the light, knowledge and cosmic awareness that Aquarians hold and are innately called to pour/serve/share with humanity.
Deeply intellectual, and inventive, Aquarians don’t like to focus on the deep emotions of the heart but prefer to analyze, research, dissect and intellect about the human condition. This doesn’t mean they are unemotional, but their tendency to explain away their emotions rather than just feel them, is common amongst this group. Their comfortableness in their own thought processes can make them uncomfortable within a crowd, preferring their own company, with their own unique ideas. Solitary folk, they are however very friendly and courteous within friendships and groups, fair-minded and humanitarian in their outlook. Independent and loving their freedom, they can sometimes be perceived as detached, sometimes felt to be airy and lofty to others. In all manners of being they can be a paradox, predictable yet not, warm and friendly yet suddenly cool and aloof, nurturing and loving yet uncomfortable asking for support. Their dreams, desires and aspirations can be idealistic and yet very practical, and often have a broader, progressive and forward-looking approach. Aquarians are often geniuses which in itself can make them a little odd to the normal average folk around them.
Aquarians are the holders of the vessel of light which makes them the truth bearers. They will never miss an opportunity to give you their opinion and truth on a situation, which many times sheds much needed light and understanding. However Aquarians need to be careful not to be so rigid and inflexible in their own truth that they refuse to see another’s as well.
As we enter into the Age of Aquarius, which in its many translations means the age of conscious awareness for the oneness of humanity, Aquarians can be perceived to be the ones that sit alone and apart, searching for truth, and holding this vessel of light for us all....© Jo Jayson 2021

Virgo – The One Who Serves ♍️
24”x36”oil and gold acrylic on canvas © Jo Jayson 2026
Virgo – August 23/24-September 22/23 - Latin for ‘virgin’ which originally had the meaning of a young, unmarried maiden, emphasizing her autonomy and independence. Virgo is strongly connected to fertility goddesses, such as Artemis, Astraea, but more commonly Demeter, a Greek harvest goddess. The Virgo constellation was associated with a barley or wheat sheaf representing the harvest and the earth’s fertility.
Virgos are an earth sign and embody a quiet strength shaped by intelligence, discernment, and an unwavering commitment to purpose and serving. They are independent and self-sufficient, grounded, and often very analytical. Naturally inclined to examine life through a lens of logic and reason, they are also deeply meticulous and give great attention to details. Practical and organized and with a need for their life and their environment to be in order, all of which gives them a sense of peace.
Virgos are deeply devoted to helping others. Their care is dependable and loyal, and their manner is gentle and nurturing, offering compassion in a quiet and steady way. Driven by a desire to help, they express love through acts of service, and they excel at organizing, solving problems, offering advice, or taking care of daily tasks.
With high standards and a deeply perfectionist streak, Virgo strives to do things the “right” way, holding themselves—often more than anyone else—to exacting expectations. This can make them very self-critical and sometimes rigid, wanting always to do things better. They value inner discipline and can push themselves too far in their need for perfection. Their tendency to overanalyze situations can lead to worry or anxiety. Still, this same trait fuels their reliability and dependability.
Virgos value their independence and their own personal space. They are discerning when it comes to partners and friends and often prefer to stay in the background rather than be in the spotlight, and their emotions are usually kept in check.
Beneath the reserved and calm exterior of a Virgo lies a resilient, wise person with a strong moral compass. Virgos show their innate altruism through practical service and acts of kindness and often go out of their way to fix problems or support others, making them the zodiac’s most reliable and dependable helpers…..© Jo Jayson 2026

January has always felt like the real winter to me rather than solstice on December 21st. In January, we have put away our holiday decorations, celebrations and family visits are done for now and we settle into the quiet of Winter. It’s in this month that I feel the land starts to go to sleep, especially when there is a snowfall.
Other than a handful of squirrels and the odd little sparrow, the outside feels like it closed down for the season, and likewise, we spend more times in doors, and less time doing. It is in this quiet and stillness that we can start to ponder on inspirations and goals for the new year. We can dream and imagine them in our minds whilst we rest and settle into the time of being, not doing. I have a lot of plans for this new year, but I’m going to take my time letting them ruminate and emerge ready for some action in the spring. Its a snow day today, and I plan to stay in my pj’s till bedtime 🙂. Wishing you all time to rest and contemplate in this special interval of stillness. 🩵

It is 30 years this year that I left England and moved away. First to Sydney Australia for just over 3 years then to New York, where I have lived ever since. I left my home 3 months pregnant with my first child, aged 27 . I was a muralist in London and had just bought a house, got a cat, and was loving my life. Then I had to give it all up, and move to the other side of the world where I didn’t know a soul. Then began a 30 year journey that has been a rollercoaster ride witj highs and lows I could never imagine.
It’s amazing and yet comforting at how resilient we find ourselves to be.

"I left my home so long ago now
that I would not recognize my own face.
I constructed the Boat of My Life
and I set out into the open sea,
waving to all who knew that the seas would give me
everything I could handle and everything I could not.
And yet they waved, and I set out into the open sea
in the Boat of My Life: built from Soul, crafted by Heart,
and with great innocence I pushed off into the open sea
and have been away from my home
so long now that I would not recognize my own face
but I know that Home, Home remembers me."© poem by Em Claire

Happy New Year Dear Friends! I hope you all had a beautiful holiday season and spent time with those you loved. The new year is upon us and I wanted to share something special and personal with you for this collective new beginning.
Many of us are making new intentions, creating new habits and forging new paths. 2025 was a challenging year for many of us, and of course globally. However despite this, for me personally, I had the blessing of receiving a new and fresh creative direction.
I never thought I would ever paint landscapes after being so entrenched in the figurative for so long. My Sacred Bird series did take me in a slightly different direction and now I am wandering down another unexplored path and am ready to share it with you
A few years ago I went back home to England with my new husband Tom. It was our honeymoon so I took him to my most favorite place on earth….the Lake District in the north of England, not too far from where I grew up. The Queen had just died, and we arrived at our B&B as the funeral was taking place. The country was quiet and still, changed with grief, and still in mourning.
However, the mountains, the lakes and the valleys all remained as they always had been…beautifully majestic, simple and grounded and soul-stirringly moving. I took hundreds of photos trying to capture the sacred landscape that we hiked and journeyed through. I was thrilled to be back with the sheep and pastures that I remembered from my childhood. I got so inspired by the poet Wordsworth’s history in the little village of grey stone cottages, and spent many hours in reflection at the edge of the tranquil lakes.
Three years later, the urge to paint this beautiful experience was so powerful, and yet a bit terrifying because I never had painted landscapes on a canvas before….only vaguely in murals decades ago. I procrastinated for months, and the longer I avoided the urge, the louder it became.
I finally took the plunge last summer and found myself immersed in an excitement and joy I hadn’t felt in years. Once I got past my imposter syndrome, things seemed to flow and a new creative path started to unfold for me effortlessly.
The paintings are small and some contain a quote from Wordsworth’s poems about Grasmere, where we stayed. They are expressionistic and I feel as time goes by I may use more mixed media and collage. I do want to try to incorporate inspiring quotes to match the land I am expressing in the hope this adds another dimension to the painting.
The Lake District was my muse but it opened a new door of creative joy for me. Now, going forward I want to paint so many other places in nature that have moved and touched me.
I am gently and a little gingerly unveiling some of them here with you now as we start this new beginning in 2026. I have many more to do, and when I have enough I will be offering them for sale as framed originals, as well as prints and cards.
I will continue with the Zodiac Series and I will carry on sharing my Sacred Feminine , Chakra and Bird series for sure. Somehow I will integrate this new path into my past body of work but in the meantime I will share the new landscapes as they become available and I hope that you may resonate with them and find their resonance, moving, inspiring and quietly comforting.

Thanks for all your continued support and love
wishing you many new paths and the courage to follow your own inspired urges.
