Proud to share the latest Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame Youth All Star release. Shout out to Logan Summey for hosting the vocal sessions at Rock Mill Industries. Once again, the artists (all under 18) brought their A game and were a joy to work with. This was an extra special project for me as I worked on it with my oldest daughter (8) who got to rock out with her new buds and experience a video shoot 💚

The green room family sends love to Lenwood Sloan’s family and all who knew him. Just a really hard loss… Leni was brilliant and inspiring.

My first encounter with Mr Sloan was recording his interview for the silkroad.org podcast which details the history of the transcontinental railroad. Go listen to it.

Most recently, I was under Leni’s direction for the Tear Jar Blues Opera. I avoided theater my entire life and Leni was the dude who broke me. It was an honor to spend 3 hours every Tuesday for 15 or so weeks with him… we just worked on a video Dec 1 and he was as sharp as ever. I don’t know anyone else like Lenwood. He was as authentic as you can get 💚

“If I can help somebody along the way, then my living shall not be in vain.”

That was the mantra of Lenwood Sloan, the 77-year-old Pennsylvania titan who dedicated his life toward the preservation of Black art, history and culture. Sloan was best-known for his work on the “Look Up, Look Out” campaign honoring Harrisburg’s Eighth Ward, a multicultural neighborhood demolished by the state in the 1910s to create the Capitol Park on the state capitol complex.

Sloan died unexpectedly over the Christmas holiday after becoming violently ill at a party Christmas Eve, his family told PennLive Saturday.

If I can relearn all the bass parts for Antonio in time, I’ll be performing with him at the Abbey Bar Sunday afternoon 12/14 🎶 🎄

It’s been a tough couple days processing the loss of Selara Mann. For starters, I have a missed call from him on Nov 21 that I never returned. Ugh, regrets. Reading all the thoughtful tributes from fellow musicians in the community has been cathartic- I love seeing how many people he positively impacted.

Last year I remixed this tune for the Joy to the Burg compilation. It had been sitting on my hard drive for quite some time so I had forgotten who all was on the track. Listening to the rough mix, I assumed we used a sampled drum loop. But when I opened the session, I was surprised to see Selara’s raw unedited drums. Theres a lot going on in the song, and he just laid back and held down a subtle groove to let everything else shine. His drumming was a reflection of who he was as a person: humble, selfless, sharp, generous.

Definitely bittersweet to listen to this song this holiday season 💚💔
