Taking this photo was quite the experience. A small hike late in the night in a state park, armed with a tripod and a head light, going very close to some precarious cliffs. It took some effort not to psyche myself out as it was pitch dark and all sorts of eerie sounds were coming from the forest (or so it felt at the time). On top of it all you can see absolutely nothing since the moment you turn the light on a million insects swarm to pay homage to the little artificial sun strapped to your forehead. At the same time one wrong step and you'd ruin the park ranger's morning and make the news in all the wrong ways. For said reasons I was only able to get only a few shots in before going back to camp. I also was not expecting light pollution to be such an issue so deep in southern Illinois. Alas you can get a peak of the milky way in the left side of the night sky, plenty of stars and the moon that was shyly moving low in the sky.
