Featuring storytellers from Central PA, New York City, Baltimore, and beyond, this event highlights the voices shaping our region and the stories that help us heal, rebuild, and inspire.

Inspired by the words of Sankofa Executive Artistic Director Sharia Benn; “Peace comes when we pick up the pieces and put them back together in a way that makes us stronger.” This benefit event invites audiences to reflect, reconnect, rebuild, and imagine what is possible.

That's a wrap on the 2026 International Black Theatre Festival. 🎭💛🖤
Six days. Over 300 events. Mainstage productions, staged readings, workshops, panels, film screenings, colloquium sessions, galas, and lobby conversations that turned into lifelong connections. I couldn't get to it all — no one could — but every single thing I did experience left its mark.
I came to Winston-Salem for Sankofa African American Theatre Company. I'm going home to Harrisburg with:
📖 A notebook full of ideas for our next season and our next decade
🎭 New scripts, new artists, and new program models to bring to our stage
🤝🏾 Relationships with some of the most celebrated names in Black theatre — and with the VIPs I'm calling "Very Important Practitioners," the producers, directors, and playwrights doing groundbreaking, transformative work across this country and around the world
✨ A renewed sense of what's possible when Black theatre makers gather in one place and pour into each other
Thank you , thank you to every artist who took the stage, and thank you to every person who stopped in a hallway or a hotel lobby to share a story, an idea, or a hug.
Sankofa family — I'm coming home full. And I can't wait to pour it right back into you.
